Brick tops takes the bets but tells people who will win

That part doesn't make sense to me, at most the crowd is 100 people and the majority probably aren't betting much and the people who do bet £40,000 know exactly what round it will end because brick top tells them. So if he takes the bets isn't he basically just giving away money when he tells people who will win.

Who said BrickTop took all the bets? He has a bookies but all bets were off so bets were laid at the fight.

Hey! You're not old enough to drink! Now go and die for your country!!!

reply

Who else would take bets?
It's sn illegal fight organised by prick top, so IF someone else was taking bets wouldn't they also be a gangster who I imagine wouldn't be happy about getting ripped off.

Even if multiple people takes bets brick top us still foolish for telling so many people who will win and in what round.

. . .do you Really not get how gambling works, or are you just trying to stir the pot? Honestly can't tell.

"Personally I hope they make all the gods black and change it from Valhalla to Valholla!"

reply

I do but you obviously don't. William Hill (a bookies) wouldn't go round telling people who is going to win, so brick top (also a bookie) shouldn't go round telling loads of people who will win as he will lose money. Do you follow now I couldn't possibly make it any simpler.

Got it. . .you don't understand. The movie, or how gambling (especially this kind) works. Just curious.

You do realise that he is completely right to flag this up. I work in the betting industry and I've just made notes as I watched - because I couldn't believe such a basic error was made in such a huge plot device.

To clarify...

Bricktop is the only bookie taking bets - he's promoting the fight and it's illegal (as is his bookie operation).

The only way to benefit from a fourth round fix is to set the odds generously on every other round and hope he takes money on everything other than a 4th round victory. Whilst keeping that fact very quiet.

BUT - what actually happens is he blabs his mouth off about the 4th round to all and sundry - who place the bets (presumably with him) in one instance to the tune of a 40k stake...
AND he'd be the one paying out IF it did happen. It doesn't - so he should actually be happy. The guys have lost and the person they have lost to can only be Bricktop.

Massive hole in the story!

He's promoting the fight he's not running the event so no he's not the only person taking bets, what a ridiculous conclusion. Illegal or not there's no way an event like that could operate if a single bookie were allowed to monopolise the betting.

And when do we see him blabbing to all and sundry? We see him get a mouthful from a few suits and the fringe at risk of losing his Jacobs, that's it! They most likely bet with the other bookies for their windfall with Brick Top expecting to collect from the mugs that bet with him in ignorance of the setup.

And you claim to work in the industry?

We have to show the world that not all of us are like him: Henning von Tresckow.

reply

We don't know how many people he tells about the fix. Could be he only tells a few people he wants to be in good with.
