Movie is great -- but rating system(starred) is whack

The average rating for this movie is pretty good. However, using some screwy multiple wacky weighted average system gives some guy, who is in the top 1000 raters, a huge advantage over the rest of the viewers. And thus, his 1, brought the 8.7 average down to 3.4?

What's up with this, IMDB?
