me either. now i can understand the low rating for the sequel.....but this one......this one at least need to be in the low to high 5's. this one was good

yeah i know man, this movie should at least be a 6. it had me in fits of laughter. the 2nd one was a bit crappy though. it was ok.

I was suprised to see such a low rating as well. True it is not one of the best all time comedies but I think it deserved more than a 4 point rating.

I couldn't believe it myself. Movies like Shaun of the dead getting 7.9/10 and this great one getting 4....

If you think fart jokes are good, then fine... but that's really the only type of humour there was. The script didn't even try to make it believable that he remain 'undiscovered' until right at the very end, and so that's why my final rating was 4/10.

Right. He should have been discovered at least a dozen times. I mean, people can easily tell the difference between hugging a fat woman and hugging a latex fat suit.

And surely the other ladies in the group or in church can see that this is not the woman they've known for countless years.

And, I don't think that even a great basketball player would do very well playing in a fat suit.

Thats the problem with movie critics, like yourself. They read into it excessively and forget to rate the movie on enjoyment, instead preffering to mark the movie on quality of script, realism etc. Thats' fine, but in the end I dont care about anything ecept how much i enjoyed the movie. Afterall, thats why i go to the movies.

Well, I've been around a lot of fat people and I've watched Weird Al's video "Fat" about fifty times, so I'm pretty darn sure there is a big difference between real and latex fat.

Or are you trying to convince me that they are exactly the same?

Its a great movie. Its a new type of movie... But the sequel sucked my chinese balls. Even if i'm not chinese, it shows how much it sucks...

I'm a film critic but I would've given it a 7/10. It's a good comedy with sweet moments. That's why I liked it. It almost made me cried!

Some people who browse this site think they are judging every movie they watch , to see if it is oscar potential or not. Some movies are made just to make you laugh whether they are realistic or not, they are not meant to be criticized for every little thing that is off. No movie unless it is a documentary is real , they were originally meant as a source of entertainment and movies such as this one do just that. They dont leave you with a thought in your mind when you leave the theater, just a smile, and this one does just that. People that think they are above the "Simple minded people" who watch Jim Carrey movies and Martin Lawrence movies or any silly comedy, so they get on here and say " that movie was stupid, a waste of time,no point to it at all, I could have watched Gone with the Wind instead of wasting my time on this piece of crap." So they get on here and give it a poor rating. If you will notice alot of great comedies that are hilarious have a poor rating because some people dont have a sense of humor and trash comedies for lack or seriousnes. They cant escape life and enjoy a good laugh here and there.

This movie is the shiznit. Anytime I watch it I go into hysterics. The same people who give this movie a low rating give "Norbit" a thumbs up and that movie sucked.

I LOVED this movie. I can't wait until the third movie. I just don't understand why the ratings are low. Critics really go deep into these movies. I swear, this getting a low rating yet the Descent (MOST HORRIBLE MOVIE THAT EXISTED), which was slow and boring got a high rating? I don't get this world...

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie - though the premise had many flaws, it was still clever and worked. I thought Martin Lawrence and especially Paul Giamatti were very funny.

Just a young boy under the influence of drugs...who killed his entire family with an ax.

It makes me wonder if they'd judge Hollywood blockbusters on realism like they judge movies that aren't as mainstream as box office smashes....

For example, in E.T., perhaps that should have a low mark because bicycles cannot fly! Perhaps Independence Day should have a low mark because let us face it, what are the odds of large alien spaceships hovering over major cities? Perhaps Jurassic Park should be given a low rating because do you think the do gooders and the government would truly allow dinosaurs to be re-created?

I could go on and on, rather entertaining movies but unrealistic if you think about it. As I said, just because movies such as Big Momma's House is not mainstream, the same as a lot of B-movie horrors or low budget action films, they get ripped apart because they may not have a Will Smith or a Tom Cruise in it earning millions for overracting!

About time these not mainstream movies were given a chance.

We ALL know why this movie is rated low on IMDB.....it was plain as black & white. Pardon the pun...

When I first went to see this in the movie theater back in 2000 I thought it was a decent entertaining comedy..one where I took my entire family to watch....but I have to say that *spoiler* Sherry's bf scared the bejeezus outta me!

I never know this movie had such a low rating,the Nutty Professor has a low rating too although that is a way better film than Big Momma's house.

i don't care about ratings, since most people and critics are stupid, but i think it has to do with two versions of the movie, i'm not very sure, but when i first watched the movie in cinema long time ago, i remember how funny it was, the theater was roaring in laughter, i never laugh at sexual jokes but this movie made me laugh at them. but then later i had this dvd of the movie, i'm not sure but i can swear it was censored specially on the sexual part, although there is no nudity or sex, just sexual situations. the movie i saw on dvd was horrible. i wish to see the original movie again.
