Why did this show get cancelled after 2 seasons?

This show was amazing in Season 2. I don't like Season 1 that much. The Smith actor is infinitely better than the Season 1 Jones actor.

But they also tweaked the show to be much better in Season 2 by scaling back Othniel and instead letting Smith discover what Othniel wants on his own along with the person he is helping. And Smith didn't make excuses for the person, like Jones does all the time. Plus Smith was a much more complex character in terms of how they developed him from the writing side. And they added an amazing theme song to boot.

I could see how this would have been cancelled in Season 1 when it wasn't that good of a show. To cancel it in Season 2 though, that's just crazy. This show easily could have lasted another 4 years or more using the Season 2 format in terms of quality storytelling.

That's too bad he died in the middle of such a great show.

I wish they would have replaced the Judge role and continued on. They wouldn't have to recast Othniel; they could just use another Judge with a different name and write in such a way so as Othniel/Waxman's memory on the show is honored rather than disrespected.
