I'm desperate to find a copy of this Jane Eyre version as well and I'm interested to find out if and where I could get one. Thanks!

reply

Ditto. Did you find a copy? And if so, please let me know. Thanks!

I have been trying to find this for years as well. Most of the time, people look at me like I am making this up. If you know where to get a copy, please let me know. Thanks, Catherine

Add me to the list! Once you've seen this version, the rest are just annoying.

Well, all I can say is: please, add me to the long list of people who have been looking for this production for quite a while and who would love to have a copy of it some day. I've never seen it up to now, but people seem to be enthousiastic about it. It's a shame it's not available on DVD or VHS while so many stupid things are.
So, if any of you should ever come across of a copy of this Jane Eyre version, let me know, please.

Please add me to this list, too! I have a couple of versions of this film in my video collection, and of all of them, this is the only one I have seen or heard of being shown only once.

It's been SO long since I've seen it, that I MUST become re-acquainted with it again!

Add me to this list. I noticed that no one is telling us where we can get it, isn't there anyplace we can get it?

Me too - I would dearly love to obtain a copy and fondly remember watching this avidly as a youngster - it was infinitely superior to all other versions subsequently produced on film or TV!

Unfortunately, when this was shown in the US (in 1978--to my knowledge it has never aired here again), it was shown without the first episode. In fact, I didn't discover until later that there WAS an episode showing Jane's earlier life. Our PBS stations started it at the point that Jane leaves Lowood, editing it in such a way that it seemed to be the series natural starting point.

This said, I did tape that airing. And having just purchased a DVD recorder, this was the first tape I transferred to DVD. The picture is a bit grainy due to the videotape being so old & watched so often over the years, but I can live with that. I'd been getting worried that the tape might not last too much longer! It is now on two DVD's. According to the instructions for my DVD recorder, copies can be made of discs without loss of quality using the machine's hard drive.

Is it possible to obtain a copy of this from you? Please send details of price if it is. I would like video if possible but DVD would be acceptable. Many thanks! Hilary Davies

I have sent you an e-mail with a similar request as others have. YOu must be inundated with same. I have been searching for this version since I saw it in Ireland in the 70's. Absolutely no other version can touch it. I have joined the crowd of people petitioning both BBC and Eurekavideo but with little hope plus I don't want to wait that long!!!!

reply

No problem. It's good that you have petitioned the BBC as well, though--maybe if enough of us contact them they'll finally see the light! I think they'd find that there are swarms of us who'd gladly buy a copy of this version. It is simply heads & shoulders above every other "Jane Eyre" that has been made.

This sounds like a great version of one of my favorite stories. I also am a fan of Michael Jayston which is how I discovered this thread. Please let me know if I can also be included in the list of those who need this! Thanks. [email protected]

Hiya,
Please do add me to the list of people wishing for a copy of this version. I saw it in 1973 when it was broadcast on BBC2 - way before even video recorders were common place.
Best wishes.

I have sent you a private message.

Hi

Hard to believe this thread is still running. Just goes to show how popular Jane Eyre is. I know you must be getting sick of hearing this, but I don't suppose I too could buy another copy from you on DVD? I've seen five different versions so far but this one sounds worth the wait! If you could reply to [email protected] I'd appreciate it.

Hi. I can't believe that I am finally in touch with someone who has seen this version and recognizes that it is head and shoulders above any other version released so far. I, too, have a video copy made when I first saw that version, but it is ancient, and there are moments I missed (due to single parenting with two children at that time.) However, I do have the beginning section about Jane's time with her aunt and at Lowood school. I don't know if my tapes are good enough to actually record, but I could check that, if you still have not got that first section.

I really hope the reports of a DVD version are true but, meanwhile, are you still making copies of what you have for those of us who are pestering you?

reply

Hi! I would love a copy, no matter how bad :c), of the first hour. My email address is [email protected] .

And, yes, I am still making copies for those who ask for it. But believe me--the second a legitiate, pre-recorded version becomes available I'll buy it instantly and retire my old copy. :cD I simply have never understood why the BBC let this gem fade into obscurity and instead chose to go with the the crappy Dalton version done a decade later. The only explanation I could come up with is that perhaps they lost their own masters for it...
