Wonderful details

I'm noticing details in this production that I never saw when watching my old videotape. Someone has already mentioned Julia Severn, with her curly red hair. Now I'm noticing that, in the scene where Jane is publicly cleared of the accusation of lying, and the first victim of typhus collapses, all the older girls have had their hair chopped off! So Mr. Brocklehurst DID remember to send the barber the next day!

UPDATE: I noticed another one, probably because the sound quality is so much better on the dvd. When Rochester says "John Green, leave the church," the actor playing John Green bows and immediately walks out of the frame. However, he doesn't just leave the scene and stop, you can HEAR his footsteps walking all the way down the aisle of the church, then out and the door shutting behind him. That's a lot of attention to verisimilitude (also shows that it was filmed in a real church!)

Flat, drab passion meanders across the screen!
