Oh, lucky you! I hope mine will be here in another day or so (I'm in Canada, so it might take a bit longer).

I ordered mine yesterday and received notice that it shipped today. I'm going to *try* and save it for my vacation week after next as a special treat. :-)

Yes, my copy arrived Thursday as well. Still pinching myself to see if I'm awake--after more than 20 years of waiting for BBC to come to its senses and put this version out, it still doesn't seem real... :cD And how wonderful to finally get to see the first part--when they showed it here in the US back in the 70s, it was missing that part and started with Jane leaving Lowood.

I've got mine, too. I can hardly believe, after all these years of pleading with the BBC, that it's finally been released. I hope Acorn makes a TON of money!

I'm sure they will! Support has been really high for it on my blog- I've gone up to nearly 300 visitors (not hits) a day recently, and Thisbeciel's website crashed continually when it finally came out :D And, naturally, I will have to order these for my students when I'm a Bronte scholar (someday). :)

I've never seen this version before and I'm feeling apprehensive about buying it before seeing it! $27.99 sounds alot better then $39.99.. thanks for the info, ccj9728! But, I'm still hoping this will be available for rental somewhere!

I wouldn't be apprehensive. The 1973 adaptation is exceptional, worth every penny.

I'm sure it is, but still I would like to see it before buying it. I've made that mistake before. Buying something I've never seen because I thought it was going to be wonderful. I almost brought the BBC classic boxset of Jane Austen, thankful I didn't. I happened to find the 1971 version of "Persuasion" used, and I must say.. if the rest of the boxset was as bad as that movie, I would have been quite upset.

My friend use to have several video clips available online but the BBC actually tracked her down and made her take them down. It's a shame because more people, like yourself, who haven't seen it before got the chance to see just enough of it that they did go out and buy it- otherwise not many people would even know about it! Pft!

And I've heard of the badness of the 1971 Persuasion :D But, if I remember correctly, one of the actors in it was also the only actor to play Dr.John Graham Bretton in the BBC's production of Charlotte's Villette. It's probably destroyed, if not hiding in the archives somewhere...
