Rehearsed?... Spontaneous?...

Since this is the first topic I'm trying to write here, I suppose nobody will mind my lack of originality...
I would like to put here a thought I've had when I saw once again last week (this time at "YouTube") the first scene of part four, when Jane is back from Gateshead to Thornfield.
I really wonder how much of Sorcha's and Michael's acting in "Jane Eyre 1973" was rehearsed and how much of it was spontaneous...
As far as I know, good old BBC mini-serials like this one were produced with very low budgets and filmed quite in a rush, based on a 'one-take-only' policy. So, I gather that (to paraphrase Hitchcock) in that medium Michael and Sorcha had only three minutes to rehearse the scenes!
If that was the case, then their performances were largely spontaneous - and, for that reason, they must be considered, beyond any doubt, as truly outstanding!...
