The length of the midsummer days...

...favored my inclination to apply...
And I've just spent a very enjoyable hour (or more?) reading all these posts from others who are just as gone on the 1973 "Jane" as I am. Reminded me of 20 years ago when a couple friends and I would get together to watch a movie on tape, and try as we might to do otherwise, we always ended up watching "Jane" again! (We'd had the luck to tape the miniseries from a PBS station - before it seemed to disappear off the face of the earth.) Until now - with its release on DVD, and I'm happy to know it has NOT lost its punch - I am just as transfixed and in a daze as ever before.

Consequently, I'd love to share with other enthusiasts a presentation - a montage of favorite lines and favorite scenes. If I've left out your favorite, or if the editing necessary for the flow of the presentation is jarring to those of you who know the TV show by heart - let me just say I was hard pressed to keep it down to the 9 or 10 minutes it is... You can think of it as a teaser, or maybe something to hold you off 'til you can watch the whole show yet again

Enjoy.

Fabulous, this is amazing. You must have spent ages putting it together. It contains the most wonderful lines (although all the lines in this adaptation are said with such feeling). Thank you.

Nice to know there are SO many fans out there.

Thank you. I've posted about it now. I will have to wait until next week to see it, though. My connection is very VERY slow.

It's great to hear from you too. There aren't many readers in my hometown who are familiar with the book and none who have seen the series (that I know of anyway). So it's a lot of fun to come here and share my thoughts.

Thanks! And thanks for all the blog posting and linkage going on, too - much appreciated.
Oh - for any of you who don't have highspeed Internet, there is a zip file of the whole presentation you can download - the link to it is in that same page. Granted, that download would take awhile on dialup (it's about 12 Megs), but once it did, you could play it any time without having to rely on slow connection speeds. Just an option you might consider.

A lot of viewers are asking how long it took to make. What, you want me to divulge how totally obsessed I really am? Actually, my best guess is between 2 and 3 weeks - beginning with screen caps and sound recording, and onward. To the exclusion of all else. "From morning til noon and from noon til night", I "did exist in a kind of artist's dreamland"...
And now, I've given birth! Postpartum depression may set in. I will crave feedback...

Favorite reaction so far: Instant-messaging with someone whose friend was watching the presentation on a computer in another room:

"There was an immediate scream of "OH MY GOD!" when it started playing out there."

"If that was just for the opening, I'm surprised she survived the whole thing."

"She seems to be breathing on her own...."

(Shwew. Wouldn't want to be responsible for an untimely demise... Although I bet I could just blame it all on...The Jayston.)

We of the League of the Extraordinarily Rochester Obsessed have advised the useage of patented 'pillow-hat' technology to avoid injury upon falling down from a sitting or standing position while watching this version of Jane Eyre (or even screencaps). That was when we had the chopped, grainy version from PBS. Now that the DVD is out, it is a better idea to wear the hat and have some additional pillows around just in case.

A very wise precaution, as any self-respecting member of the LERO should know. May we also recommend a small electric fan, should you have the sudden need to cool off? And in extreme cases (which are reportedly becoming more frequent now that the DVD is out) the volatile salts. Jane should have some handy.

From "one totally obsessed fan to another"! What a great presentation. Don't know how you managed to condense it so well, I'd have had a real problem choosing my favourite bits because I love it all.

In an earlier post somebody said they were pleased at how much they enjoyed the adaptation 20 years after first seeing it. Well, I enjoyed it every bit as much after 30 years, it was strange watching it again when it was re-released and wondering if it was going to be a big disappointment, but it certainly wasn't. At the tender age of 10 years old I fell in love with Michael Jayston as Rochester (I'm giving away my age now, oh what the heck!), and I must say he still looks and sounds absolutely scrumptious to me in the part.

A bulk order of volatile salts at the ready!

reply

Well, I am the person who cried out, "OH MY GOD!" And I did so because I was stunned....STUNNNED!...to discover that I found Michael Jayston to be JUST AS SEXY NOW in the role of MR as I thought him to be 20 years ago.

One would think that one's tastes might change over 20 years, but noooo....not in this case.

I'm still breathing....but barely!

I guess I'm still a lifetime member of the MRFC (Mr. Rochester Fan Club).

We so-o think alike about Mr. Jayston!! How do we find his other work on video? It is really hard to get enough of Michael's acting. SGW

Aw, this is lovely! You have got all the nicest Jayston bits! And Sorcha looks delightful! 'For the truly obsessed'... hmm, I have no idea who that could be. ;-)

reply

Wow, this presentation is ace. It's brilliant to watch all the best bits condensend together. I love it.

Thank you millions of times for your amazing presentation. I happend to stumble over this JE version only about a month ago (via videos on YouTube). And ever since I hardly remember to eat and drink and it is with great difficulty I pull myself together and get any work done. Your montage helped me to survive while waiting on the DVD to arrive.
BTW: I downloaded the zip-file to my laptop and showed my elderly mother. She exclaimed - before I revealed my feelings - "Oh, he is handsome!". Next time I went to see her, I noticed that she had started to read the book again!!

reply

Excellent! That's very good to hear, thanks.

So, it was YOU who made THIS!!! I can't see myself IN THE MIRROR since I've seen it!!! "FOR THE TRULY OBSESSED"??? It was UTTER HUMILIATION!!! And I hold YOU personally RESPONSIBLE for that!!!

Let us face it - we ARE obsessed.
But as long as we can admit our insanity - we are still sane.

That multimediapresentation 'arteest-1' has created is MARVELLOUS!
