Try as I might I have been unable to identify the haunting opening and closing theme music for the myriad episodes of the spectacular mini-series "Fall of Eagles." My feeling is that the music is in the public domain, but that's purely a guess. In any event the theme selection was superb. Can anyone help?
shareThe opening titles music is from the first movement of Mahler's Fifth Symphony. The closing theme music is the central "crisis" section from first movement of Shostakovich's Sixth Symphony. :-).
shareInteresting that they chose a melancholic, mock/heroic bit of 19th century music for the opening credits; and tense 20th century music for the closing.
shareHowever...they chopped off the first (solo trumpet) phrase of the Mahler, so that the orchestra comes in sooner.
