Great to see a kind wife for a change!!!

One of the great things I like about this movie is Robin Penn...she plays such a lovely character. I find that in most movies like these, wives are portrayed so horribly. They're always mean and nagging and marriage is always portrayed as this horrible trap. Thankfully, this film gives us a different view. She's so supportive, and although she's definitely no doormat, she doesn't get cranky about stupid things and is very accomodating!

Great film. I loved how she was a dance instructor.

I really liked Robin Wright in this movie, although the sympathetic wife part she played sort of begged reality. Her character was way too patient with her counterpart. Speaking from experience.

Relationship problems mostly stem from each partner not helping the other partner to attain his or her goals, whatever they might be. He was repeatedly guilty of that, and other boorish behavior as well. It doesn't matter that she was not helping him attain his goals, whatever they might have been. The rule is, ladies first. Again, speaking from experience.

You are kidding, right? Woman have this 'my needs and wants are more important than yours' attitude and that's why the divorce rate is so high.

Wives should dedicate every moment of their lives to her husbands wants and needs and be grateful for having a husband.
A wife being unwilling to have sex at least three times a week, should be grounds for divorce without alimony and child support.
The husband gets first choice on what will be watched on TV.
Saturday is the husband's play day.

Yeah, well,a lot of men have that same stupid, selfish it's-all-about-me attitude, which ALSO leads to the high divorce rates. And a women is not obligated to give you something just because she's your wife and you demanded it---try ASKING for a change--in a marriage 2 people should want to do things for each other because they WANT to, not because they're still stuck in these outdated, traditiional ides about what a husband and wife should be to each other. No marriage nowadays is gonna last a year with a backwards atittude like that, from a man OR a woman.

I disagree with your opinion that it was unrealistic that a patient wife would stay with a boorish husband, especially when they have the sort of relationship portrayed in the movie. The greatest example that I can think of is the relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Wilson in Dennis the Menace. At first glance, their relationship is very antagonistic with the caring wife and the grumpy husband, but, if you look deeper, the love they have for one another becomes readily apparent.

Try watching TV then. All husbands are treated like clueless buffoons who have to be constantly bailed out of trouble by their practical wives.

Examples; The Simpsons, Raymond, Family Guy, King of Queens, and hundreds more.
