survey: best music ever used in Final Fantasy

I guess if you are here then you have opinions about things - tell us what you recon are the 5 Final Fantasy (any FF) songs that you would play in winamp on repeat and not get sick of.

Believe it or not I haven't ever played a single FF game myself... (pathetic, I know, and I know that I don't know what I'm missing)
and that's why I started this thread - I'm starting to learn FF songs with earnest but I want to know which ones to get. Being a musician I recon the music alone deserves a big applause! Using mostly classical instraments but the few FF compositions I've heard so far, dare I say, are way better than those classical pieces.

Never knew a piano can sound so good...

hmmm... I find it a little interesting that you posted this same thing in the FFVII board... I wonder if this is really some sort of experiment or something...

anyway I already posted my choices once and will not do it again! :)

Experiment? I guess you can call it that if you wanna. If you ever saw my profile you'd know that I'm more of a reader than a poster. I think these FF posts are the only ones I ever made.

What I said above is genuine so there's no reason for worry: I won't compete with Nobuo Uematsu or cook up a campaign against Square Enix. It's interesting though, to see how people have such variation in music preference even over a narrowly defined collection (narrow? maybe not so narrow with the total number reaching 4 digits)

Maybe someday I'll actually play each game and find out if the rest of it is good enough for the music.

Well friend, I too am a musician/aspiring composer. The differenct between you and I is that I play many FF games quite often. However you and I seem to both enjoy the music of said games, and I shall offer you my favorite songs from these games.

"Dear Friends" - FFV
"The Evil Lord X-Death" - FFV
"The Day Will Come" - FFV
"Music Box" - FFV
"Final Fantasy" - the theme of the series, found on any of the soundtracks
Let me also suggest most of the FFV soundtrack, it's overall just spectacular.

"Tifa's Theme" - FFVII
"Who...Are You?" - FFVII
"Aerith's Theme" - FFVII
"Fight On!" - FFVII
"Cosmo Canyon" - FFVII
"Dear To The Heart" - FFVII
"Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII" - FFVII
"J-E-N-O-V-A" - FFVII
"Descendant of Shinobi" - FFVII
"Those Chosen By The Planet" - FFVII
"The Nightmare Begins" - FFVII
"One Winged Angel" - FFVII
Well, I can go on and on about FF7, once again, I suggest the entire soundtrack.

"Eyes On Me" - FFVIII
"Fisherman's Horizon" - FFVIII
"The Castle" - FFVIII
"Liberi Fatali" - FFVIII
"Breezy" - FFVIII
"Maybe I'm A Lion" - FFVIII

"Melodies of Life" - FFIX
"Overworld Theme" - FFIX
"The Place I'll Return To Someday" - FFIX
"Song of Memories" - FFIX
"Kuja's Theme" - FFIX
"Protecting My Devotion" - FFIX
Many people will disagree, but FF9 is not only a superb game, but the music is some of the best that Uematsu has ever done. I think so anyway...

"Otherworld" - FFX
"Tidus' Theme" - FFX
"To Zanarkand" - FFX
"Auron's Theme" - FFX
I'm not as familiar with the FFX soundtrack as I should be, but the music from this one is excellent.

Well, I went a little overboard, but stopped myself before I really got going. I know I didn't cover I-IV or VI. They're worth checking out, especially VI. I'd stay away from X-2 if you can, not anything too spectacular there. Other Square games I might suggest the music from - Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2. Not Square, but Shadow of the Colossus has an absolutely superb soundtrack. Alright, think I've ranted enough for one day.

Yes, Nobuo (the FF composer) is the GOD of music.

Anyway,
1-The Legendary Beast(8)
2-Battle with Gilgamesh (5)
3-One Winged Angel(7)
4-Assault of the White Dragons (9)
5-The Man with the Machine Gun (8)

Though it may not show from this list, IX by far has my favorite soundtrack. It's just those songs are classics :)

Also, this list was hard to make...and I don't use Winamp. I use Windows Media Player.
