Where to buy?

I was eight years old when this came out. I loved it, but was harangued by my older siblings, so could only enjoy it if they weren't home. Now that I am 43 I can watch whatever I choose. So does anyone have it, even on VHS? I especially remember one scene: a gorilla soldier is driving an army supply truck down a country road, listening to the radio, and the song went a little something like this, with a quick country-western beat, "I'm going humanoid over you". It frequently runs through my head, and the only cure is for me to have the DVD or tape on the shelf at home. *sigh*

OMG, I remember that scene ("I'm goin' humanoid over you") like it was yesterday! I am also 43, and I have the movies on VHS, but have only seen the TV series when shown late-night as "condensed" into 5 movies, or when the Sci-Fi channel shows them (rare occasions).

I don't know if the cartoons were ever put on VHS or DVD.

Remember that driving gorilla tapping his foot to the song? Hilarious! (In a good way, of course)

I even remember part of one verse: "Humanoids are Gen-er-al Irko's enemy"

Classic!

I purchased a bootleg DVD from eBay (it was recorded off of a local channel in Australia, but the seller lives in New England!) and I can tell you that the song was used in the 4th episode, TUNNEL OF FEAR. They sang the words too quickly for me to write them down for you, but the first two lines were "Never thought that I'd be actin' humanoid/That's not the simian thing to do".

It was one of my favorites when it initially came out, but in the 80s WPIX New York (when it was a cable superstation) showed it in reruns on Sunday mornings. It's a shame they discontinued it while Bill, Jeff and Judy were making progress with the humanoids with help from Ron Brent and Nova. I loved THE UNEARTHLY PROPHECY (we are introduced to the Underdwellers--I love that "OO-suh" chant), RIVER OF FLAMES (the gorillas unintentionally blow up a volcano and Krador finally calls Judy "Judy" instead of "Usa"), SCREAMING WINGS (Judy commandeers the airplane and drops a net on Urko), INVASION OF THE UNDERDWELLERS (Urko is stripped of his rank and suspended for 3 months) and BATTLE OF THE TITANS (Kygoor grabs that annoying whooping snake-bird-thing by its legs and flings it away).

I'm glad that I'm not the only one with fond memories of this rare gem. There is a website with a page dedicated to it, tvobscurities.com.

All together now--IIIIIII'm goin' humanoid over you!

The animated series is part of the recently released Ultimate DVD Collection and though all 13 episodes have subtitles, unfortunately they did not subtitle the lyrics for I'M GOIN' HUMANOID OVER YOU. They are on discs 11 and 12 and the whole set costs $179.99. The episode with that song is on Disc 11, "Tunnel of Fear".

Well if you guys were 43 than you were 12 years old not 8. I too am 43 and the series came out in '75. If you do the math :-)

reply

I was only 8 when it initially came out, but when WPIX showed it in reruns I was in my late teens.

Usa! Usa! Usa! Usa! Usa!

The series is now available seperately, as a 2-disc set. I got my copy from Best Buy.

I got mine at FYE with my discount card. All 13 episodes have been fully restored (as opposed to the ape head collection where only three episodes were "cleaned up") and the first 12 episodes come with next-episode previews as they were when NBC aired them in 1975. The back cover lists the episodes in the order that they were initially broadcast (in other words, NBC didn't play them in order)--complete with air dates--but the discs have them in the correct storyline order.

I'd love to see a live-action remake, Sherry Stringfield (ER's Dr. Susan Lewis) would be perfect as Judy (same hair!). I'd also like to see a final episode to tie up the loose ends and to see General Urko get eaten up by either the monster-snake-bird-thing or Kygoor the mountain ape! THAT would be cool! Judy passes the Underdweller/Usa torch to Nova and along with Bill, Jeff and Ron Brent, they return to their own times. Apes and humanoids live together in harmony (with Zira and Cornelius making New Valley their weekend getaway) and they all live happily ever after.

I picked this up from Best Buy the other day for $14! What a great deal. This show was better than I expected and great for putting on in the background while I work on the computer. They also had the POTA live-action series for the same amount but I didn't buy it. I just might have to go back and get that as well.

Does your college professor condone shoplifting???
