My favorite parts were the musical numbers. When they finally got down to doing what they do best. I never thought of Collins as a song and dance woman. I was suprised she held her own with veterans like Shirley MacLaine and Debbie Reynolds.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Yes, Joan was terrific, wasn't she? I watched this mainly to see Shirley MacLaine, but Joan totally held her own against Shirley and Debbie. Some great physical comedy as well, and terrific supporting performances by Jonathan Silverman, Nestor Carbonell and Pat Crawford Brown as Joan Collins' mother.

I was amazed to see Joan Collins doing the splits on the floor as she was pushing 70 when she made the film. I loved the way the three old troupers kept moving after the music had been speeded up. All three women have worn their ages very well.

reply

Yes, those aerobics really paid off for Joan!

Re Joan Collins doing the splits. I am now reading her new book 'Passion For Life.' She tells how she was taught the splits at the age of 5 by her grandmother who was 70 at the time. Joan was still doing the splits on her UK tour in 2010 aged 77. It seems as though she has inherited her grandmother's talent and nimbleness. Plus those aerobics have helped as you say.

Thanks for the details! It's no surprise that Joan is still doing aerobics because she appears to be in great shape. Perhaps there's a bit of surgical enhancement involved there, but the infrastructure appears solid enough to make her an appealing performer and personality.

Is "Passion for Life" worth seeking out? Does it read like an honest memoir, or is more guarded? I suspect the former. I've been reading a lot of celebrity memoirs lately, and I'm sure I'll get to that eventually.

Re Joan's infrastructure. You're right. Surgery is ok but these stars need to have a good engine on them as well. I saw her on tv a few weeks ago promoting her book. And honestly. I couldn't believe that I was looking at an 80 year old woman.

The impression I get is that Joan doesn't want to hurt the living in 'Passion For Life.' She isn't that type of person. There are some revelations in it but she is not really nasty. There are plenty of photos. Some nice chapters on her family background and upbringing. A chapter on her boyfriends. I'm surprised that isn't a longer piece. Boy, has she had boyfriends. And yet she seems to have been a little naive on men which I find charming. I'm half way through and I must say that I am enjoying it.

Thanks for the details. I'll seek out "Passion for Life" eventually. I'm so far behind on my reading now!

It seems like with a lot of memoirs, you have to read between the lines. The authors may refer to people in their lives without naming them, but a lot of times you can read between the lines. Then there are other authors who are just evasive about just about everything, and it makes you wonder why they even bothered with a memoir.

Joan Collins does name names in 'Passion For Life.' So I think you will enjoy her book.

reply

That's good to hear. Thanks again!

I watched it when it premiered. Funny film.

Giorgio Armani. He must be Creole.

It was quite entertaining to see them sing and dance, even though this film was released 14 years ago.

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?
