is he at the dinner or not

hey all do you think R was actually at the dinner J had for him or was he dead by that time I am of the mind to think he was there any comments?

I think he was at the dinner. She had that whole warped vision thing throughout the movie, and at the end, everyone disappeared from the table... then everyone returned but him. I think that was just a symbolic way of showing that even with him gone, she now realized she had people in her life she could feel safe with. Also, the way he interacted with everyone, and them with him... I don't think that could have happened unless he was really there.

I was thinking maybe the shot of everyone but him was supposed to show like future times, and how because of R, everyone in the family re-united and became close again.

I agree. Rewatching it recently I noticed that when the family members reappear they are wearing different clothes except for "J". This suggests to me that the reappearance is meant to show a time in the future, and that the family is still together after R's death

Well, no, when I was listening to the director's commentary this afternoon I watched esp for changes to the rest of the characters attire at the last supper (after reading your comment), finding folks remained in the same attire.

He was at the first dinner, but absent from the next dinner. This occurred after his death.
