Best of the original

This will always be the best Megaman game ever made. Followed closely by Megaman 3.

I visit the Capcom boards frequently, although I never post because I'm too lazy to sign up. A lot of ppl want Megaman Powered Up 2, but I guess the sales on Powered Up 1 and Maverick Hunter X were not so great. So a remake of our beloved MM2 for PSP seems far fetched. However, there is speculation that due to MM2's popularity, they will make a new version for digital download on PSN and XBlive. Cross your fingers!

Metalman and Wily Stage 1 dude. Best songs ever. Have you heard the Rockman music collection CD? They remixed Megaman 1-6 songs in both Rock and Techno versions. Two separate CDs. You can get them off Amazon.com

I love that theme. That was the coolest song I've ever heard when I was a kid

I think it's safe to say the best tunes came out of MM2 and MM3.

Same here. It's about that time of the year for me. ^_^ I usually get that classic Megaman urge during fall/winter.

MM3 comes REALLY REALLY close to MM2 for me. The only reason I prefer MM2 is probably just because I played it first. It had that "magic effect" on me. By the time MM3 came out, I was already expecting greatness. MM2 set the standard for me.

Well, I played all the MM games from 1-4 during my childhood. Then my dad stopped buying me games until the SNES came out. So I played MM5-8, years later. So 1-4 always had very special places in my heart. Mastering them as a little kid was a major accomplishment, being that those games are harder than hell even for most adults. I loved MM4. It was the first MM game where you could charge your buster. And the weapons are really cool. Especially Pharoh Man's power. In terms of rating MM4. Let's just say I would give MM2 a ten, MM3 a nine, and then MM4 would get an eight. So yeah, it's still pretty awesome.

Glad you enjoyed it man! The Cossack stages were pretty fun, eh?

Agreed on the energy tank thing. Really that counts for all of the MM games besides one and either seven or eight. From what I recall, it was either number 7 or 8 that was cutting it pretty damned close with the E tanks when I beat Wily since they only give you a limited quantity.

It would get hard at the end when you fight Wily. Everyone else can be beaten in a flash without you taking too much damage. It's all about saving those E tanks for Wily. ^_^ I never have to use any until I get to him.

Are we talking about the best of the original first 6 NES games, or the best of the original series? For me, the best game of the original series is Mega Man 9. Minus the challenges and extras, I felt that Capcom had truly surpassed Mega Man 2 as they intended to do. The soundtrack in MM9 is great, and the level designs were rather impressive, particularly Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Plug Man and Tornado Man's stages. The game also ups the difficulty quite a bit, and if that's not enough, hero and superhero mode are sure to satisfy. Also, the option to be able to play as Proto Man is also a plus.

If we are talking about the best of the original first 6 NES MM titles, then I would have to choose Mega Man 4 (Although I do like MM2 a bit more). I felt that the developers did everything that they could do with MM4 as Inafune's team developers have stated themselves. I admit that the gameplay in MM4 is a bit slower and takes the longest to finish compared to the other 5 titles, but that's pretty much why I like it. The game also explains the origins of Rock, an ordinary assisting robot of and created by Dr. Light, to become a fighting robot to stop and counter against the evil threats of humanity, robots and most of all Dr. Wily. The soundtrack is also really nice in MM4. Dive Man and Dr. Cosack's stage 1 music tracks were my least favorites out of the bunch, but Dr. Wily's stages and the final boss boss battle music tracks made up for them. Seriously, Wily Capsule 4 has got to be the best final boss battle music out of any 8-bit video game. It never gets tiring. Overall, Mega Man 4 does absolutely what it is supposed to do. To be an overall legthy, fun and enjoyable game.

Agreed. Thankfully NES Classic has this one, I defeated via several saves at boss fights to live to tell about it. It's genius that there's no clock to worry about, it takes patience to really bite into this game.

Megaman 2 is the better game but Megaman 3 had some clever bosses and the dr wily music to me is better than dr wily in megaman 2. I also liked how they brought back the bosses from part 2. 2 is the best game in the series but 3 will always be special to me.
