I love the sex scene between Ricci and Depp! Lucky girl! N/T
no text silly
shareLucky girl indeed... geez, already three films with him. I think it's time for a fourth ;)
shareWhich sex scene do you love? I loved them both, but the first one was VERY erotic!!
shareYes it was very erotic and naughty, but I didn't like it. I was reading in a interview that it was very hard for both of them to do the love scenes in Sleepy Hollow because they take eachother as brother and sister, after that reading that is how I veiwed them, like brother and sister. I was a bit apalled after seeing them do it in TMWC.
I would like to know how they got by those erotic scenes. For Johnny to act as if making love to a girl he has seen grow up from a little child must have been hard.

I will take my place, in the great below
Brother and sister can be very convincing as lovers in a movie. I'm thinking of German actors Meret and Ben Becker here.
But love scenes with someone much younger you knew as a little child must be strange, I'm sure.
Dogs are sons of bitches.

'...it was very hard for both of them to do the love scenes in Sleepy Hollow because they take eachother as brother and sister...'
You've all confused me lol!Are they really brother and sister or do they just think of each other as such?
Having seen both "Sleepy Hollow" and "The Man Who Cried" I have to comment on your post. In "Sleepy Hollow" CR kisses JD on the cheek twice.Love scenes? And in"The Man Who Cried" he takes her virginity with no preliminaries while she sits in a chair outside in the dark. She barely knows him and is already presented as a victim. If it was not Johnny Depp this scene would clearly be seen as rape.Later, he takes her again up against a theatre wall while an opera is in progress. In both scenes Christina Ricci shows us confusion, pain, discomfort, and classic victim behavior by letting him treat her this way because she doesn't know any better or because she's alone and afraid and at least he isn't hitting her so it's "alright".He is as big a pig as the one Cate Blanchett is with but at least that one knows he's a pig. I am a Johnny Depp fan but I hated the character he played in this film. And no "Gypsy sexual tradition" explanations please! He is a pig!
I cared more about what would happen to his horse than I did about him.

I loved both of the sex scenes, but I have to agree, the first one was the best. But she was more into in the second time. Johnny's so SEXY!!!!!!!!I liked it how they didn't kiss. It made it different...more real, and VERY erotic!
shareErotic? It was practically a rape.
sharei want to see them!w/b
shareI really have to disagree! I thought the sex scenes looked scary almost. She seemed scared the first time anyway. And they didn't kiss at all until the last time they were seen. It didn't seem romantic to me at all, it seemed too rough and mechanical and unemotional. At least until the last time. I still think this was a good movie, I just wouldn't say I enjoyed the sex scenes.
shareThe sex scene in Astronauts Wife was the one I thought was scary!
shareThats because he was raping his wife...
sharewow, very unromantic scene, random, yes, unromantic definetly...he opend her knees and then started AH AH ing.. it didnt look like she wanted to do it...
please forgive me, i know not what i do, please forgive me...i cant stop lovin' you!~ Bryan Adams!
I didn't like that scene either. I don't like the movie at all.
shareThe sex scene in Astronauts Wife was the one I thought was scary!-snoogans27
Yeah I would have to agree, I mean Ninth Gate's love scene was freaky but that was like the scariest love between a man and his wife in a movie that I have ever seen.
i think she looked scared the first time b/c she hadn't done it before! i thought they looked really realistic. It's cool that they could make it seem so real even though it prob. was extremly awkward for them... or Johnny, at least.
commendable.
IJohnny Depp!
*beep* man, you've gone completely sideways!
The second scene is really random. He just rides around on his horse (or his whorse named Man, as my friends and I call his lovely animal) and then gets down and has sex. He doesn't even take his pants off!!! Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci were both going to be in "Interview with a Vampire," but they both declined the role. That would have been a fourth movie! I don't really know what the actuall sex scene in Astronaut's Wife is supposed to be like, because I saw the "edited for TV" version, but I do know that he like went psyco, so that is a little weird.
Never trust a girl with pixie sticks.

I agree, I thought the first one was really weird...he really got right to the point, huh?

I think we have to look at more than just that particular scene to know what's up with it. He asks her, "Then what are you?" and it cuts away to the beginning of the scene where they eventually have the sex. I found the sex scene to be extremely erotic, but that may be because of my mindset. The way I see it, it was not just sex. He was taking her, and I don't mean sexually, although he certainly did that, too. He was making her his own. At the end of the movie, he calls her "My Susie", and she calls him, "My Cesar". Ownership. She didn't seem all that scared to me. She did depict the pain of a first time. And, in that respect, he was pretty gentle with her.
Not your average romantic interlude. But, to me it was very romantic, along with being erotic.
It sort of freaked me out. I mean, it just didn't seem romantic to me. That is definately not how I would have wanted my first time to be. And then I thought about how uncomfortable they would have been. It wasn't the best part of the movie for me.

I agree it seemed as though their two characters were using eachother for sex and not because they had a mutual love and respect for one another. I also thought it was strange how they only kissed eachother in the last scene. They reminded me of dogs in heat, no emotion, no passion, just full sex.
shareI thought it was a good scene, but what made me mad is that when he opened her knees and she started to talk (becasue she was scared) he said "shh...hush..hush" what is that! don't hush me!,lol,if I'm not ready than stop!. But I do think that he loved her, just like I love johnny!!!!. But over all I loved the movie just that one scene made me mad.
JD is the hottest!!
w.w.j.d what would jesus do?,lol
i assumed that susie was supposed to be a virgin in the first love scene, so i thought the it was pretty realistic. i know i didn't have the time of my life the first time.
ouch.
I really appreciate Sally Potter's portrayal of all the sex scenes in this film. She allows her audience to use their own imaginations to fill in any blanks, rather than just spelling out every little detail. It's not just the Hollywood standard "two-naked-people-plus-close-ups-of-naked-body-parts-plus-lame-lines-that-real-people-just-don't-say."
An incredibly erotic sex scene without nudity or ludicrous banter? Directors: take note.
I assumed that susie was supposed to be a virgin aswell. people here are saying she looked scared but she just looked in pain to me.
And since we're talking about the sex sene I didn't like the frist one it just made me feel kind of ill. the secnd one was ok though.
"To Live In Fear Is Not to Live At All"
I SO totaly agree with you there zizzy86!! I tought I was quite awful...! I love both Christina an Johnny and their acting is great, but the scene isnt sexy at all!! The movie is also good, and I like the role Christina plays.. but the first sex scene kinda looks like a rape..
sharewhats the big deal..? its johnny depp thats all that maters....lol
j/k of course....
-when your right, no one remembers. when your wrong, no one forgets.-
I love everyone's opinion and here is mine: I agree that it was not romantic but come on who's first time was. Not surely mine. By taking her, he is claiming her and she is allowing him to do so. No words but moaning, it's natural. Everyone has to admit that the first time with anyone is weird and emotions unravel until after a few times sleeping with each other. I think that is why when they do it the second time under the stage you see her more into it. Cause she probably has experienced it more and can enjoy the action of making love. When she was leaving and he was holding her while crying, I understood the love they felt for each other although not many words were said. That is the sign of true love. I would love to see another movie with these two and maybe because they know each other so well, that great chemistry is there. Go Johnny and Christina!
shareI have to agree first with deablo. Whose first time was romantic, nice or painless? And I thinkl it is the caracters way to do it like that, part of his personality. For him it seemd beautiful, and I think she liked it too, even if it ached. It was romantic and erotic I think. they didn't kiss, ok but maybe they were frightend they maybe could never get together and it would have been to hard at all.... I just don't now, but both of the sex senes in TMWC were hot.
shareI was just wondering, are Christina Ricci and Johnny Depp in any other movies together besides Sleepy Hollow and The Man Who Cried?

Beautiful movie, and I don't find the first love scene at all dirty. It was the two of them, it was obviously her first time and while he did go to it rather quickly, he appeared gentle. The first time IS painful and scary, but it isn't as if she tried to get away or fought him at all. They were kindred spirits as was obvious from the scene when the children take her bike, leading her into the gypsy camp and Cesar (Johnny) tells her that they all take care of each other. She becomes one of them that night, so in the first sex scene, after she has stood up and spoken out for him, they have sex. Then the second scene, as someone said, is obvious they have become lovers.
Their goodbye scene, when they share a toast to each other and refer to each other as "My Suzie" and "My Cesar", it is a very dear, tender moment. They know they will probably never see each other, but know they can't be together in order for her life to be spared. The silent crying scene, with Cesar (Johnny) embracing a sleeping Suzie and weeping in silence at the idea of letting her go... well, as Johnny Depp always does, he conveys SO much tenderness and emotion in that silence. Gave me CHILLS! He is just amazing. I loved their relationship. Just wish we could have seen more of it. But then, ultimately, this movie was about her life's journey to be reunited with her father. But sure would have loved to see more of Johnny! What a hottie!! And such a skilled actor.
I have to agree with deabalo, EmilyClaireJD and bshumate - that was definately a very realistic representation of a 'first time'. scary, painful, intense. Whoever suggested the 'ownership' idea, that Cesar is claiming her - spot on, I didn't think of that before, but I can definately see that now. As for the love scenes - beautiful and erotic. I think people have been brainwashed by hollywood movies into thinking love scenes have to be all kissing and romance and a whole lot of nonsense. This was real. The characters were in love. They needed each other. They wanted each other. We didn't need to hear some long drawn out declaration of love to know that. it was there in the way they looked at each other. she didn't need to utter some cheesy line, like 'Make love to me, Cesar' or 'be gentle with me, it's my first time'. the way Sally Potter dramatised these scenes really worked in the movie and they're memorable and powerful as a result
share I think the first love sceen is both unrealistic and realistic. in one way its realistic that she is in pain and not starts schrem of plessure after 1 sec like it is in some movies. it's unrealistic that he , like someone put it, got right to the point. just spread her legs and went on with it... and when under this short time did he ever loose the pants??
Oh well it looks like they got it down the second sexsceen...
but what? have they knewn each other their hole lives?
Yeah, they're in "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas" together. She has a short cameo in it and they are in scenes together too.
sharetheres a sex scene in sleepy hollow!!??? i think i missed it or somthing cause i ddint c one

I AM AN OFFICAL JOHNNY DEPP ADDICT!
I don't remember seeing a sex scene either. Did i blink for two long???
Johnny Depp is so Shexay!yum.
yay im not alone! can someone please specify the time when the scene took place???
We're the McQuaide brothers! HA!
I AM AN OFFICAL JOHNNY DEPP ADDICT!
There was a discreet sex scene in Sleepy Hollow. Later in the movie, The villainess (Wicked Stepmother) and the reverand. That's the scene where she cut her hand. The one Ichabod saw but didn't say anything about.
About The Man Who Cried...
I think the first love sceen is both unrealistic and realistic. in one way its realistic that she is in pain and not starts schrem of plessure after 1 sec like it is in some movies. it's unrealistic that he , like someone put it, got right to the point. just spread her legs and went on with it... and when under this short time did he ever loose the pants??Maybe I shouldn't be saying this but... Men don't have to remove their pants to have sex. The fly is appropriately placed in the front of their pants. The music drowns much of the sound of that out, but he did at least undo his pants. If you turn it up and listen closely, you can hear it. Just a little jingle. As for going right to it... Well, that is possible, too. All he needed was to be in the right frame of mind, and apparently he was. He had set it up so that he was. It is realistic. Hot, too.
no i was talking about the sex scene with Depp and Ricci
We're the McQuaide brothers! HA!
I AM AN OFFICAL JOHNNY DEPP ADDICT!
That's what I thought, but I mentioned the one "sex" scene in the movie, just in case. Ichabod and Katrina do not have any kind of scene like that. There was one scene where it looked like they were going to kiss, but Young Masbath interrupted them before anything happened. That's about as risque at they got in that movie.

what are the sex scenes in that movie? can someone please tell me? my dvd player is broken=(
sharewere they naked or any nude scenes
sharei dont understand how anyne can say that the sex scenes were not good to watch? its so erotic and come on its johnny depp!! ive only seen this film once but i would watch it agin for obvious reasons!!!
sharethe sex scenes are very graphic and dont leave much to the imagination but i still think it was good acting..even though it was a tad emberressing to watch...for me anyway..lol
*Im in middle of a divorce D-i-v-o-r-c-e DEEVORCE"!
I haven't seen this movie yet, but I could imagine how hard it would be for Johnny Depp to make that scence, because of how he feels of Christina Ricci.
and by the way, the sex scene in Astronaut's Wife was a rape...but the Alien Spencer. lol. I know that sounds weird, but Spencer was an alien at that time and he was trying to make her pregnant with the two aliens, so that was why it was rough and scary.
yEA i FigUrEd As MuCh...but does it matter who she has sex with I mean come on its johnny depp....lol I wouldnt be complaining if he banged me that hard...haha...j/k or am I????????
***how about alot less talk and more of SHUT THE HELL UP?!***(FAMILY GUY)
Ichabod and Katrina were cute
I liked the second one when they were under the stage. Very beautiful.
i wish the ring had never come to me.
The sex scene in this movie is one of the best I have ever seen. It was so real and at the same time erotic. It was about time someone showed that a girl's first time is painful.
*****Rock Out With Your ___ Out*****-Britney Spears
Well it certainly wasn't Johnny most tender. A little foreplay would have been nice. I found the outside chair by the fire bit very erotic, that someone could have seen the whole thing (I'll bet that white horse was watching.) I love that the director understated things throughout the film by having the actors say few words, that steamy sex scene notwithstanding. Johnny and Christina had beautiful chemistry and did an outstanding job.
shareDoes anyone know the meaning of the words Johnny Depp says in that scene?
Thanks!
Yeah, I've always wondered that too! Anybody?
As for the first sex scene, Cesar is from a different world, he isn't a man of words- this was his way of expressing his feelings for her. When people say its realistic, we don't mean its how it is for everyone, but sex isn't usually the romanticised version you usually get in the movies and its a pretty realistic portrayal of how it would have happened for them.
The first time I watched the film I felt uncomfortable at this scene, it does seem like she doesn't want to. But watching it again I understood it more and did find it erotic. They are in love, just look at the way they look into each others eyes. She's a little scared as most people are their 1st time, but when he hushes her you can see she trusts him - she could easily have stopped him if she wanted to.
In no way did I feel they were just using each other, as someone else suggested. Contrast their relationship with the one between Lola and Dante- now that was 2 people using each other, there was no love or romance or eroticism in that relationship.
I'm just sorry there wasn't more of the relationship between Suzi and Cesar in the film.
I loved both sex scenes, the second was a little short but showed the passion. But the first was slow but quick, a quiet love scene which involves a virgin losing it.......which I think is well and truely beautiful.
Christina Ricci lost her screen virginty perfectly in this movie, lots of leg, no screams only tears. And Johnny was so gentle.
Spoilers.....I like the way they used him riding his horse to help him display his dilema- when deciding whether to claim her or not, then as he slowed down he kind of turned predatorial....slow, calm and determined. He approached her with ease, kneeled before her -opened her knees and.....

In romance novels the older guy usually does a little more work before getting down to businessI'm guessing you're pretty young? They are romance novels. I don't want to dispel your illusions but its rarely like the romance novels or Hollywood movies! Thats not saying its never romantic but you need the right guy for that. share
First does anyone know the exact words he said cause I really can't make out the anunciaiton to look them up. I just bought the book online so maybe them. Second I found the first love scene very erotic. Riding the horse round and round and sizing it up, should I or shouldn't I. The frighened nieve little girl and the beautiful piercing eyes of Johnny Depp, and his voice as if to reassure her. OMG Such Passion. Whats a girl to do.
shareI'm lucky enough to have the script of "Man Who Cried" in book forms - it means something like "Fine little one, beautiful little one". Which is sweet.
shareok i have always wondered how do directors shoot sex scenes in movies? Like the actors cant actually have sex can they? Because ive scene some very realistic scenes and i have always wondered how they shot. Anyone have any info?
shareit means something like "Fine little one, beautiful little one"THANK YOU!!!!! Tanithpanic, you're a star! You've no idea how long that's been bothering me... share
Delighted to help! Try and get the book if you can; you'd maybe find it in the film section of some Waterstones bookshops. There's the film plot told as a short fiction before it goes into the script; there are a few different scenes than in the film; it's worth reading.
shareThanks, I must look it up! I'll have to go online though, the local bookshops are limited (I'm from a town in Ireland... but even in Waterstones in Dublin, they mostly just stock the popular stuff!)
shareWhere did you find that as a book form?
shareI think from her post, Tanithpanic got it in Waterstones book store, but I'm not sure what the availability is like now. Its only available second hand on amazon.com, although it is available on amazon.co.uk with a 4-6 week waiting period.
Hope that helps! Otherwise you'll have to wait and see if Tanithpanic replies. I don't know how often she visits this board, but she came back & answered my question anyway!

Here's my take on the scene. In the first scene, he was "taking her" there was no real love on his part. She had just embarrassed him by fighting his battle for him with Turturro's character (sorry for the misspelling). He rode his horse around her in circles like he was sizing her up so to speak. Or he was symbolically isolating her. then he touches her face with the back of his hand. She does not flinch. The first time he tried to do this, she did flinch. This was a sign to him that she was ready to get closer to him. Why no kissing? I think because a kiss is so much more intimate than sex. Kissing involves the heart and soul, but sex can be had without either - just animal instincts. (Remember in Pretty Woman how powerful it is when they finally kiss one another?) They are just using one another. This continues into the second scene. Maybe because he's a gypsy and hated by everyone, he doesn't "let down his guard" and fall in love easily - so no kissing - keep one's distance - don't be vulnerable. But, at the end when she is leaving, he decides to show his vulnerabilty, he not only kisses her, but allows himself to really FEEL by crying.
I actually thought this movie was just OK. The music was beautiful, but the lipsynching was quite awful, really. I never once believed that any of the characters were actually singing except for the gypsies.
What do you mean? An African or a European swallow?
I like your insight...I think you got it down pat
"I dont give a crap if you covered youself in peanut butter and had a 15 hooker gang bang"
what, no foreplay? no wonder it hurt so much.
what I don't get, is how everybody is coming to the conclusion that they loved each other. when you're desperate for human contact because your only friend will barely speak to you because her sugar-daddy doesn't like you so you have sex with someone that you barely know just to feel close to another human being, that's not exactly romantic.
and seriously, he barely even looked at her when they had sex the first time. look, if you think it's romantic that they 'didn't feel the need for words', then fine, but if my first time was like that, I'd be quite upset about it, even if it were johnny depp.
there was no affection whatsoever. just pain and some gasping. a friend of mine was saying that her first time was neither painless or especially pleasant, but he was at least affectionate and caring. before, during, and after. and that's the way it should be
I know what you're thinking and you should be ashamed!
I agree with you 100% but the truth of the matter..is usually girls first time having sex is pretty fast and brief.....well atleast for me it was...
btw it didnt mean my boyfriend didnt care about me....it just happens in the heat of the moment
"Peek a-boo, Im gonna hump you"
"He is so protective of me, like an older brother, that it's a bit weird to be faking having sex with him. But we know each other well enough to laugh about it... He always joked about us rooting around like pigs." --Christina Ricci.
Yeah i would have thought it awakward that they think of each other as brother and sister, but its good that they can laugh about it.
I thought the sex scenes were beautiful, Johnny is gentle and nice to her. I liked the way going round her on his horse can be like isolating her or wondering wether to or not.
Yay Johnny!! I loved him in this movie.
I am so sorry missus, but right is right and fair is fair and something has got to be done

she actually said that quote. Man if I was her I wouldn't be calling it weird I would actually love it if I was in a scene like that with him she doesn't know how lucky she is he is so HOT!!
shareI think it was rather disturbing. I don't care how hot he is in this movie, if a dirty guy like that tried to have sex with me, I'd be out of there in a second.
shareThis is great insight to their relationship. I was quite confused because I started watching from midpoint, the gypsies were singing and she sang back, she defended him and he looked upset... then he just. I was surprised. But your explanation makes much sense.

I like this movie. For some odd reason, not because of Johnny Depp, I didn't know he was in it. But it was a plus that he was. He was smokin hot!!! lol! The sex scene caught me by surprise though, because I was 11 or 12 at the time and I was watching it with my mother!!!! Embaressing!!! Anyways, those scenes, now that I watch them are very... I can't find the word but they seemed intense for a girl her age, I wouldn't let a guy do that either, even if he was hot like Depp.
"Would you kiss me if I wear the hat?"- Tony Montana (Scarface)
I just watched this movie again and was trying to figure out why I really don't like the two sex scenes but loved their last meeting...where they finally kissed. Thanks babette62 for explaining it I totally agree.
I liked this movie because of the music and the time period and I am a Depp admirer and thought how beautiful he was as a gypsy riding that white horse.
