Change from the novel

Is anyone aware of why the filmmakers decided to change the infertility from male (in the novel) to female?

I'm not objecting - I'm not precious about changes to source material but wondered if there had been any discussion on why the decision got made to make the switch?

Not sure if they actually stated it was 'female' infertility, it was that women weren't able to carry babies to term and eventually it happened earlier up to the point where conception didn't happen.
Better than having some sort of 'blame' on one or the other.
