Bad

It's bad just bad

If you turn the sound off and just watch the gorgeous women (especially Jennifer Sky and the Firefly chick)prance around or talk to each other all pouty it's freakin great! My wife hates it though :(

reply

It was pretty bad, but I think it was the high amount of plot holes... or the actress'.

reply

This show was so horrible! But I did kinda like checkin out the red-head chick. I bet this show was havin decent ratings because Jack of All Trades was on after this crap.

"Hail to the King, Baby!"

reply

??? The redhead chick?

The leads were two blondes and a brunette. And only regularly recurring female guest stars were two brunettes wearing black wigs.

This show actually got about double the ratings that Jack did. The idea for two very different half-hours of action was a very creative one, but it didn't work. Cleo won out, and they expanded it to a full hour after cancelling Jack, but one Ren Pics decided to end Xena, they decided the minimal profit they could make from filming only one show in NZ was off-set by the rising NZ taxes, so they pulled the plug on the hour-long Cleo pretty soon too.

Roadwarrior85846, "I bet this show was havin decent ratings because Jack of All Trades was on after this crap.",

OK first of all I'm not knocking anybody that likes Jack of All Trades and I'm not trying to start a fight here or anything, OK?

Anyways, where I live everybody I knew all thought Jack of All trades was stupid (or "crap" as you like to put it). We all hated it and liked Cleopatra 2525 better. Infact we actually had Cleo shown after Jack! That's right, where I live all the TV stations used to show Jack of All Trades first and then Cleopatra 2525 after because they were trying to get people to watch Jack! Everybody would only sit through Jack because they were waiting for Cleo to come on. By the way I love Bruce Campbell, but I just didn't like that show. Anyways, just thought I'd tell ya all that.

I really liked this show. It was just mindless, half-hour entertainment. I was really sad to see it and Jack of All Trades go.

reply

lol... you LIKED this show? well... you must be in heaven every time you turn on the TV... nothing but mindless entertainment everywhere you look. I mean... it's great for you... no point in being really choosy if you can be happy watching anything but this show gives a whole new meaning to "bad... really really bad". Then again, I don't see the difference between that and Xena & Hercules and they were much more successful so...

reply

Well, there you go. But I would consider myself pretty choosy, and I liked all three shows. I could rattle off credentials and qualifications and so forth, but anyone can do that on the internet - it doesn't mean anything. (A 5-year old can claim they're Spielberg in disguise.) But I could easily name a dozen thematic points about Cleo that I liked, and how they fit into the broader sci-fi genre, what their predecessors and influences in the genre were, etc. Doesn't mean one in six billion people - i.e. you - have to enjoy it, but that doesn't have any relevance to its actual merit though. The creative people - directors, producers, writers, actors, etc. had/have impeccable credentials, and all have had flourishing careers before and after.

I sometimes wonder if people claiming something they don't like is autmatically bad isn't actually conceit (i.e. "I didn't like it, therefore I proclaim it's bad - therefore it is." but actually compensation for an inferiority complex. A person confident and secure in their intellect and education can say in reference to anything "Well, I personally didn't care for it, but that's just me," and not worry about it. But if one is afraid that by disliking something that means one isn't smart enough to appreciate it.... then it's so tempting to say "Oh, well, see...it's bad. It's very BAD! So bad that you need to agree with me that it's bad. So bad that I need to find strangers on the internet to agree with me, so that I can feel validated. It HAS to be bad! Otherwise, what would that say about me, if it was actually good, and yet I didn't appreciate it?"

Touche brother! ;)

But thats why people like this show, its so bad its good. Its so trashy its fun to watch!

reply

I'm just glad that Gina Torres moved onto an even better sci-fi show.

Which proceeded to get cancelled in 1/3 the time!

Now really, just look at the qualities of this wonderful show:

1.) three really cute girls in skimpy, shiny outfits.
2.) noise, flashes of light and sparkley things.
3.) over the top, comic book like action.
4.) wicked super villains like Creegan. (I mean, dig that makeup!)
5.) totally tongue in cheek approach to everything.
6.) cheap but fun sets.
7.) simple, easy to follow plots ;)
8.) Hel-Gina Torres, smart & beautiful
9.) Sarge-Victoria Pratt, strong & beautiful
10.) Cleo-Jennifer Sky, funny & beautiful

Perfect weekend fun.

Actually, I enjoy the show, what I've seen of it (first several episodes from Netflix). I like these independent shows more then most network shows. The only network dramas I like are shows like Lost or Heroes. Those are great. But shows like CSI, Law and Order, and most cop shows bore me to death. I'd much rather watch something like Cleopatra or Lost World or Deadwood from Netflix then a network cop show. I also found the Soprano's to be a bore.

I really enjoyed the days of Saturday afternoon adventure shows. Xena and Hercules got a good run while other shows just made it one season. I liked how Hel and Sarge jumped and fliped while firing their wrist weapons with extreme accuracy. It was never ment to be taken seriously. It was made for fun. And I had fun watching Cleo scream in every episode and seeing the look on Hel's and Sarge's faces trying to understand her 20th century euphemisms. I love the irony of the Baileys. They were designed to help persevere the Earth and they realised that mankind was the true problem and decided the rid the planet of us. That gave the show a good premise. So it is not totally mindless. There have been shows with worse story lines. I also thought they came up with some interesting episodes. I won't go into details because I would have to throw up spoiler warnings, but they did come up interesting science fiction style devices that created conflicts for them to solve. That makes for good science fiction. So don't expect Star Trek or Farscape. Just enjoy the adventures and antics of three gorgeous women rescuing mankind.

Tis just what I was thinking when reading the synopsis... *shudder* sad thing is... I have a vague memory of watching this when I was younger... I loved Xena+Hercules... it was probly on ch5 around the same time.......

reply

Haha. I had no clue this show even existed until I stumbled on this page a few minutes ago, and holy crap, does the synopsis sound awful. Seriously, who thinks these stories up?!
