Is This the Movie With the Flagpole?

I saw a movie several years ago. I din't see it from the beginning, think I found it channel surfing.

The first story featured a young woman who was pretty much ostracized by everyone for being different. She joins the military and comes home years later.

The whole story seems bound together by a flagpole on the town square or something similar and several generations of one family that take care of it and narrate the story.

It does end with a lesbian wedding, but I don't remember if Ellen Degeneres was in it.

If that is not this movie, what movie am I thinking of?

It was on cable maybe in 2001-2003?

The movie you're thinking of is Common Ground (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0212889/combined). It's very similar to If These Walls Could Talk 2 in that it covers 3 generations of homosexuality. The one difference is that Common Ground deals with gay men and lesbians, where was ITWCT2 deals strictly with lesbians. Both of these movies were great. The final scene you're thinking of is actually 2 gay men who are marrying but I think their wedding planners were lesbians.
