Questions about the scene with cake.

I understand the basics of the scene, that Takashi is feeling guilty and brought home a treat. What makes it suspicious, though? And why does the pudding make it more suspicious? Maybe I'm getting too caught up on the word 'suspicious', but I feel there's some element I'm not picking up on. Can anybody help?
