I personally believe that games like Halo, Gears of War, the N64 version of The World is not Enough and Everything or Nothing are much better than this overrated game. Don't get me wrong, I like the game, but it is extremely overrated.

To say that Goldeneye 007 is the best first person shooter of all time is a huge stretch, IMO. I like the game, but I just don't think that it compares to games like Halo or Call of Duty.

If halo did not have online multiplayer, AS of right now people would still prefer Goldeneye. Halo's singleplayer is pretty bad Goldeneye's is much more engaging and like others said, nobody would think to make halo have its amazing console multilayer if Goldeneye didn't prove that a console fps could ahve good controls and a multiplayer so fun people would have parties centered around it. Myabe you didn't like the Goleneye movie?

I say good in terms of quality. In terms of fun, itself, Metal Slug, Bomberman and Doom kick almost all new games arses.

share@ OP, talk about overrated... Halo series i find to be 'extremely overrated' and even 'Gears Of War' gets to much praise if you ask me but at least gears of war is decent unlike halo which i have no clue what people see in that game.
and to be honest... i think main reason GoldenEye (N64) gets so much praise is because "in it's day" (1997-98 ish) it was a great game and i think main reason people still praise it is 'mainly' cause of Nostalgia purposes ;), not cause it's actually still great to this day. lol
cause im 28 now i was about 18ish when i first played it when it came out and i had some great times playing that vs my cousin on the archives level ;)
so like i say, it mostly boils down to the 'Nostalgia' stuff as to why it gets so much praise to this day ;) , cause if you did not grow up around the days it was new your probably going to wonder what people seen in it as compared to most of today's shooters it's quite dated.
p.s. those where the days when console shooters where good cause not long after Goldeneye i got to used to playing shooters on the PC and now i cant play shooters on consoles at all cause it's just to hard to aim at stuff with analog stick vs a mouse.. mouse feels alot more natural to me.
The first time I played the game was when I was about 5 years old, thats about when it first came out. I thought it was the greatest video game ever! I still love it to this day, it may not compare to the modern video games but I still love it Nostalgia or not.

I don’t think that it matters that they are 'two different games almost a decade apart'. I also don’t think that a games worth is based on how revolutionary it is. Pong was revolutionary but Halo is still the better game, right? Just because GoldenEye was the first, doesn't mean it is the best. Don't go calling me a troll because I do love GoldenEye. I simply realize that it is not, and could never possibly be, as good as games now-a-days.

I think Goldeneye is the second best first person shooter ever, after Perfect Dark. And yes, I have played Halo 1 to 3, Half-Life 1 and 2 and episodes 1 to 3, Bioshock, and most other first person shooters on the 360/PC/XBox/PS2/N64 etc (not the PS3, except for Resistance: Fall of Man, or the Wii)
shareCan one take the opinion seriously of anybody who thought TWINE was a good game? In all reality, I know its all about preferences. But its true that Goldeneye paved the way. How many had even played a fps before Goldeneye? I know I hadn't. From the first day I played my brother-the-Bond-fan's Goldeneye game I was forever changed. Gaming is in my blood - was since the day I was born, passed down from my father I suppose. While I prefer to play any of the Halo games (yes, I like campaign, especially 2 player with one of my brothers, or with both brothers on Halo 3 via system link), occasionally both my brothers and I will get nostalgic for an older game, and that is almost always Mario Kart 64 or Goldeneye. I really liked Perfect Dark too, but my brothers don't care much for it. The game is just too choppy at times. Goldeneye is very smooth flowing for an N64 game, and we have a lot of laughs playing it.
