What happened in the last episode?

I tuned into this show by accident one late night when I hit the wrong button on the remote when I wanted to switch the TV off and just caught the intro voice before it came on and thought it was worth a check before I went to bed and I got hooked and was watching it religiously for months after but was horrified when I fell asleep one night and missed the finale and that was way over a year ago so now I'm just wondering if someone could tell me what happened?

It didn't have a proper ending.

The brunette lady that looks like an older Kate from Lost was in some airplane, and it was going to go down in some sort of a storm.

The young kid was left behind.

I think C. Thomas Howell was in the plane, I'm not sure since it's been seven years since I've seen this show.

Episode 22, "A Bible and a Gun"

Karen is in the plane, flying away and trying to reach someone (anyone) on the radio.

Jimmy was shot (in his struggle with Dr Kennedy) and is waiting in the jungle.

Dr Kennedy is going back to the Chosen to get help for Jimmy.

Elder Cole's half-breed daughter shows up, so Elder Cole is accused by the other two Elders of grave sin.
They claim Elder Cole has mislead the Chosen.
The strangers can no longer be considered "Heaven Sent" nor can Will be considered the "Chosen One".

Elder Cole is placed on trial.
Pia, Andrew, and Will try to talk sense into them, but it looks hopeless.
Rain is pouring down ... Elder Balaam presides, looking more menacing than ever.
Suddenly Dr Kennedy shows up with a machine gun and a Blble.
He fires the machine gun, shows them the Bible ("Here are your lost words!"), laughs maniacally.
