Something never sat right with me.

In episode 2.02 "Test" they have to a HIV test because they want to donate blood and Kathy tells Papa Titus about the test (without permission). Since she's nurse wouldn't that be against the Hippocratic Oath adn doctor-patient confidentiality?

I don't about the specific rules, but if thay hated Kathy that much, couldn't they just have her license revoked? Or do only doctors abide by those rules?

reply

They could also kill her and bury her in the forest, but i don't think they hate her that much.

It's just a tv show. It's played for laughs not seriousness.

Nurses don't take the oath, I don't think.

reply

True. Now realistically there is a confidentiality agreement that they are not allowed to reveal anyones medical information, except to the government in the case of H.I.V. So in real life she could get fired for that (and even sued), but as stated, it is just a show.

To Love and win is the best thing. To Love and lose, the next best.

There's no "Nurse's Oath" contrary to what Cathy Moriarty tells us in SOAPDISH. And unless I miss my guess, confidentiality is not part of the Hippocratic oath, just the law that all people with access to medical info must follow, docs, nurses, the shriveled up old ghoul down in the records dept, etc....Yeah, my ex works in the records dept, heehee

reply

There is no oath, but there is something called HIPAA that forbids revealing any personal or medical information to any but those deemed appropriate by the patient.

reply

Nurses do not take the Hippocratic Oath (nor does the oath deal with confidentiality, it deals more with doctors making an oath to always use their skills to help when possible). They do have confidentiality requirements so yesh, telling someone about anyone else's medical history would result in some kind of punishment.
