I liked it growing up. I don't get it either. I know a lot of kids that liked it. I guess adults can't really judge a kids movie

Honestly, I find it extremely idiotic that so many users on this board are defending this movie by saying "it's a kids movie, adults can't judge". I'm sorry, but that excuse is not valid.
Just because a movie is made for kids that doesn't mean that it has to be held by extremely low standards. Heck, some of the movies considered the greatest ever made have been intended primarily for children; Toy Story (along with the majority of Pixar's credits since 1995), The Lion King (and many other animated classics made by Disney), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Iron Giant and Spirited Away just to name a few.

Thomas and the Magic Railroad bombed at the box office despite being well promoted and produced on a modest budget, for a good reason; the production and direction is sloppy, the acting is mediocre despite there being some fair talent on board (Baldwin, Fonda etc.), the script and story line is inconsistent and as lackluster as they get.
