Bad Ending

I just watched this movie for the first time and I must say that I thought it was very weak. I don't like saying that movies are bad becase I think all movies have there good points and this one had it's as well. I do think that if you like to let movies wash over you and don't need a well written plot then this is a decent movie. It had it's cute moments as far as his daughters and sister went. The movie as a whole was not good enough to make me want to think about it agan past this comment, but not bad enough for me to turn it off in the middle of it. However, I think that the ending was a bad way to end the story. It really left you with no sense that the story has ended or that the conflict had resolved. I don't even think that it really fit in with the movie. I am a plot person and for me it wasn't there. The movie had a great cast full of great and well known actors and actresses, so I would have expected better from it. I wouldn't suggest this movie :(

This film is underrated.
I think it is a tribute and a parody to women.
During the movie you hear the rich chicks babbeling about their insignificant little problems... the NOISE is always there.
The fact that Dr. T keeps being galant makes him a saint, in my eyes.
The final scene is a cumulation of that, when he delivers the baby in the desert. He is finally free, doing what he wants most, and does best. Maybe he's even died & gone to heaven... who knows?
Allright, the picture asks a bit of patience, but is worth the effort.
A bit of an arthouse-film, in my opinion.

I think they just needed some kind of empty space to make the contrast from the clutter of the waiting room, which definitely worked well, but the birth just didnt sit well, altman could have made that point in a better and more subtle way. overall it didnt spoil my enjoyment of what i thought was a very well crafted film.

i've noticed alot of people seem to be critiscising the lack of standout performances, but i think this is because it is so equally shared. i thought there where plenty of good performances i just couldn't single one out without mentioning pretty much all of the cast.

I agree, the ending was horrible. I kept waiting and waiting for a good resolution, and it didn't happen.

I kept waiting for the credits to roll...

...wait, I'm not going to admit that I saw this movie.

I have a theory on the end of this movie - if you thought the end was surprising - check the comments section (click on "check for other user comments" if you're new).

Cheryl (make-up girl): Its called Cirque du Face, meaning 'Circus of the Face'...

... It removed him from the crowding pressures in his life, yet still allowed him to feel like he was 'giving' to a woman... just this time WITHOUT being the focus of attention!

The luck is gone, the brain is shot; but the LIQUOR - we still got!

I think the ending was only thing that made it worth watching (well except for seeing Kate Hudson as a cheerleader). But, it was a long, long journey to get there.

Weak is an understatement. Deeply strange and confusing closer to the truth (wich can be good in some cases just not in this one). What I don't like is a movie who appears to be something it is not. It's so disappointing. This one tricked me into thinking it was something like a romantic drama comedy or whatever and I guess it _was_ just that for a while, only SOMEONE had greater pretentions and wanted to really make a Woody Allen-movie instead or at least something arty. When i saw this movie first i didn't know Altman did it, if I had known I suppose I would't have been so surprised by all the stupidness. I know everyone thinks he is some kind of genius but I honestly can't understand why they even let him near making a movie. Okay...Shortcuts was allright...sort of. At least it made you think. But he has a taste for nasty things like that strange birth-scene in the end of Dr T. wich reminded me of Alien for some reason. It left me completely oblivious of any hidden profound meaning and instead wondering whether the stuff shown (oh god!) was made of plastic or real or computer animated or what!!?
Futhermore I dislike movies that make women seem like sheep.
You are too deep for me Altman! Gaaah!
