Male cheerleaders?

Are they're any in reality? Cause I don't see male cheerleaders in a SoCal public school, I know a cheerleader and she says guys are not up for that and that male cheerleaders only exist in movies.

There was a male cheerleader at my HS a few years before I went there. I saw him in an old yearbook. There aren't many male cheerleaders I'm sure.

My friend's son was a male cheerleader in high school. When his son told him he joined the squad, my friend said "so let me get this straight, you are going to spend time after school picking up female cheerleadrs in short skirts and lifting them over your head.... very nice!" Watch the cheerleading competitions on ESPN sometime. There are a lot of male "cheerleaders".

I don't have an opinion. The word "opinion" implies the possibility I'm wrong.

It's typically more common in college non-school based teams, though not super common, some high schools don't allow it (not sure why)

But in my former high school (I graduated in 2007) there was one male cheerleader in my freshman year and the following years it wasn't allowed.

When I watch this I find the amount of male cheer-leaders unbelievable especially on the clover's team.

The first time I heard of male cheer leaders was when George W. Bush first ran for office, he was a cheerleader in college an I think some of high school too, lots of jokes about that

I'm a male cheerleader... hi yeah we do exist. Even rarer are us straight ones. haha

There were male cheerleaders in my high school (which was a suburban public school), and also at my college.

Total aside, but someone else raised it: George W. Bush was not a cheerleader in college. He was a cheerleader in high school, though. Both his high school (Andover) and college (Yale) were all-male at the time he went there, so it should not come as a complete shock that they didn't have female cheerleaders.

My high school had 2 male cheerleaders one year but they guys could try out any time. It was no big deal. It's more common in college squads.

There were no male cheerleaders at my high school, not while I was there. Apparently there were two there the year my aunt graduated, but it was always girls from there on out.

It's often more a college thing than a high school one.
