'Charlie bit me!'

It suddenly dawned on me that this charming short is the earliest progenitor of the viral internet phenomenon epitomized in "Charlie Bit Me."

Two children -in this case, infants- interacting naturally until one does something to the other and merriment ensues.

The elaborate sweetness of the setting, evidenced by the fussy Victorian frills of the babies' clothing; the hand-carved high chairs and solid toys; the static, formal framing and razor-sharp focus of Lumiere's motion picture are contrasted by the relaxed armchair setting and frenetic, blurred cell phone focus of the later internet video.

Just the same, the passage of over one hundred years between them does not separate the two, but rather links them in their theme of childish mayhem; demonstrating that the more things change, the more they stay the same and children today are barely any different than those of a century ago.

"If you don't know the answer -change the question."
