Which version is better the animated one or this one?

Hands down. It's the animated version for me. It is the only version I show my high school English classes.

I just finished watching it on http://www.videosift.com/video/Animal-Farm-1 / http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9153412213802919416 ... I read the book and saw the animated movie when I was in high school. I thought this was decently good even though it had cheap special effects compared to Babe and other movies. Both are decent to me. :)

Just wanted to point out Animal Farm - 1954 Babe - 1995
That's 41 years. Knocking it for its effects not being of Babe quality is a point greatly lacking this fact for context. The effects didn't exist....for anyone....anywhere. It's like knocking a Model T for not having twin turbo. Or a T.V from the 50's not being internet ready.

the animated one, it had the same type atmosphere portrayed in the book and also hardly any dialogue (like the book). That one gave me nightmares...this live action one was kinda laughable with all the puppet-animals talking.

The animated one by far. That was terrific. Sadly, this one was not very good, either as an adaptation or on its own terms.

Honestly, I adore both, so it's hard to say. I was very impressed with the live-action film. The loss of Boxer was particularly affecting. It boasts great voice acting and animal acting & training. I grew up on this one and have owned it for a long time, whereas I saw the animated film only once or twice (or something like that.) Thus my longstanding fondness may have something to do with my slight preference. :) They are both excellent movies.

Watching it today for the first time,i can honestly say...both had there hearts in the right place....but as a kid(even with the original movies upbeat ending)i will always cherish the former.....this version does tend to rely on the appeal of`Babe`(with Fly lookalike Jessie taking over Ben`s role as catalyst)to pull in the audience.....that said both are equal...but novels are more equal then movies...lol!

IMO the animated one was far superior. I just watched the live one for the first time and though some real quality actors are in it it just falls flat for me and I was left wondering why they bothered and how they couldn't have gotten it better.

Both for me
