shane´s wife doesn´t know, therefore she´s confused that he refuses intimicy with her.
as far as i remember, the woman was shane´s formerly hirer; june visits her to find out what´s the matter with shane, cause she´s so confused. it´s their honeymoon and he goes so much out leaving her alone; and no sex... .
shane seeks so desperately for leo cause he hopes that he might have found a cure in the time since then; he loves his wife and can´t have sex with her - would kill her.
he killed core cause she turned to a kind of monster; as far as i remember, she attacks him, but i´m not sure about that.
the end is open; no hope for cure, no sex with his beloved wife ... . one day he´ll kill her and himself, or only himself before he can kill her. or only her and escape and have a terrible life for some years until he kills himself.
for me, personally, is like a german poem by goethe about a sorcerer's apprentice which did a conjure while the master was out of house and then couldn´t stop it. or of pandora´s box.
and he brought himself and all the others in that situation cause the great money (that didn´t come then) allured. it´s a symbol (not the right word, but i can´t find a better one), too, for danger + money-mindedness + and betise + criminality in/around that whole pharmaceutical complex.
it´s a sad film for me, with some brutal, more really beautiful scenes. and a great vincent gallo.
