I agree with the both of you. I wanted to like it but it tried my patience too much. Editing was too abrupt and jarring. The transitions weren't smooth at all. The acting was mediocre. Then again, the amount of dialogue in this movie could be fit onto 5 pages. Character development was non-existent. I couldn't care about when the characters were killed or in danger. The camera shots were odd: sometimes the closeups would be too close. You'd see a person's face from their lower lip to their forehead for no reason. Or sometimes the camera was too far off and detached. Why all the slow-moving shots of random buildings?
So many moments throughout the movie where I was thinking, "What's going on?" or wanted to shout, "When is something that makes sense going to happen in this movie?" I was thinking that right up to the end credits. The eroticism was thoroughly lacking too. During the sex scenes, there were constant closeups of navels, male nipples, shoulders, elbows, hands, and all other body parts except the sex organs. For me, this is worse than those sanitized Hollywood sex scenes with no nudity. At least those scenes are brief. But the non-nude sex scenes in this movie feel longer than necessary. I know we saw some vagina once or twice but it felt like too little too late.
Virtually nothing in this movie is explained. I don't mind movies that leave things open to interpretation. However, if things are open to interpretation, there must be some clues left by the director for the audience to use to support their interpretations. Since we never understand anyone and their motives, we're left to come up with random assumptions.
All in all, a tedious film. I didn't find anything stimulating. There wasn't anything thrilling or suspenseful. Nothing jarred me out of the apathy I felt throughout the entire movie.
