Instead of time traveling 3 hours before the stadium disaster, why didn't Merrick time travel back to the Evanston powerplant fire?

That way he could have saved lives there, including his cameraman's life. And then he wouldn't have been depressed and lose touch with his wife and son. He could have then warned of the other pending disasters and saved more lives.
