10 years and the same clothes?

I know it's part of the main character's story that he was an astronaut who saw the world die from space. However...while he's running around earth forever, 10 years or more, he's never changed clothes?!

I also was thinking that the lady he met as well as himself must be awfully stinky and that their sex was probably the stinkiest event ever other than opening a 3 month old jug of expired milk.
