Hidden Letter in Cool, Cool Mountain Room

If you go into the room with the paintings for Cool, Cool Mountain, stand right next to the center one and zoom the camera in till you are looking from Mario's point of view. Look around until you can see behind the wall, and back there is a large red "L". Anyone know why this is there? Anyone else find this?
