Karen Black and I will be at the American Cinematheque Weds Feb 3rd

The American Cinematheque is hosting the LA premiere of my new film “Stuck!” at The Egyptian Theatre on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 7:30 PM.

Tickets can be pre-purchased in person at The Egyptian Theater box office (6712 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, CA, 90028) or by calling 323-466-FILM.

“Stuck!” is my homage to 1950’s film noir women-in-prison films and stars Karen Black, Mink Stole, Susan Traylor, Jane Wiedlin, Pleasant Gehman, Starina Johnson, and Stacy Cunningham. The cast will be joining me at the premiere, so I hope you can come see us. It would be great to see you!

All ticket revenue is going to support the The American Cinematheque. The Cinematheque is a non-profit, viewer-supported cultural organization dedicated exclusively to the public presentation of the Moving Picture in all its forms. The Cinematheque presents the best of film and video - ranging form the classics to the outer frontiers of the art form. I really appreciate what they do to support the art form and have decided to waive a guest list for this event. The screening is open to the public.

See you at the movie!

Steve

PS> After the “STUCK!” premiere, in grand Hollywood tradition, the cast and I are going to Musso & Frank across the street from the Egyptian Theatre to celebrate with drinks and dinner.
We would love to invite you to join us, though regrettably, it just isn’t in the prison budget to provide you with “bread and water”! If you would like to dine, our advice is to reserve a table ASAP before they are fully booked. There is also a beautiful bar for people who just want to meet over drinks. Please stop by our table and say hi. It will be fun to continue conversations after the screening. And if we pack the restaurant that night, it will feel very much like a private party!
To make a reservation call Musso & Frank at 323-467-7788.
See you soon,
Steve

SYNOPSIS:

STUCK! is director Steve Balderson’s homage to film noire women-in-prison films. Faithfully re-producing the genre with a modern, tongue-in-cheek twist, expect all the hallmarks of a classic prison movie complete with a wrongly accused heroine, hard boiled dames, diabolical alliances, forbidden love, cat-fighting cuties, a sadistic warden, and corrupt prison guards.

STUCK! stars Karen Black, Susan Traylor, Jane Wiedlin and Pleasant Gehman. It’s the story of Daisy, an innocent young woman framed for killing her mother. Condemned by the press and the public, Daisy is found guilty of murder and sentenced to die by hanging. This jazzy, finger-snapping, broads-behind-bars film is a throwback to another era, with terse Tennessee Williams-style verbal sparring, non-stop action and enough bad-girl jailhouse hi-jinks to make the audience lose the distinction between good and evil.

ADVANCE REVIEWS:

"FOUR STARS... Balderson just doesn’t make simple films, and this is no exception. It’s not in the words, or the plot or the story; but it’s in the air, it’s in the beat, it’s in the very soul of the work."
- Jeremy Knox, Film Threat

”Had me on the edge of my seat… will stick with you long after you've watched it.”
- Deep Dish

”Gorgeous ...feels less like an homage and more like a newly discovered classic... better than most of the movies that inspired it..."
- Gonzoriffic Movie Reviews

”Steve Balderson is the best-kept secret in American independent cinema. He makes his own films - which are unfailingly brilliant - and the rest of the world very, very gradually catches up with him... Stuck! [is] an unexpectedly powerful, skilfully managed slice of women-in-prison drama that never teeters into camp..."
- MJ Simpson, UK

”If one insists upon calling it a 'women-in-prison film,' then it must be conceded that STUCK! is easily the only women-in-prison film that could justifiably be called a serious work of art."
- Dr. Joseph Suglia

”This film will reel you in with the promise of a rousing good time ... Balderson ratchets up the action, cranks out the snappy dialogue, and brings us back to another era of tough times and even tougher women."
- Rachel Popowcer

”Fantastic and strong… Excellent performances. A must see.”
- Obscure Horror

”Mink Stole, Pleasant Gehman, Susan Traylor, and Jane Wiedlin bare their teeth, their nails, and more with superb talent. Perfectly cast...a modern tongue-in-cheek twist on a classic prison movie.”
- Seattle GLBT Film Festival

”Tatoverte Dutch legger sin elsk på Daisy, og etter hvert skal det vise seg at Daisy kanskje har flere sider fan.”
- Blikk Magazine

”Fresh and timeless... It is a breathtaking fusion of genres that, while unashamedly camp and tongue in cheek, never seems less than totally genuine ... a MUST.”
- Raindance Magazine

”A loving homage to women's prison films."
- Windy City Times
