I like Liv, but I thought she was pretty ordinary, though she can do a mean car wash. Cameron Diaz is loads funnier in There's Something About Mary.🐭

The Lord of the Rings wasn't the only film Liv Tyler appeared in during 2001. That same year, she played the lead in a screwball comedy called One Night At McCools, which starred Matt Dillon, John Goodman, and Michael Douglas.

In the film, a group of guys recount their time with a siren-like manipulator called Jewel, played by Tyler. Because each person tells their account to depict them in the best possible light, many of the scenes are re-shown with slight differences to highlight the fact that nobody remembers the events the way they actually happened.

Basically, it's a comedic version of Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon. It may be an interesting concept but it's badly delivered. With homophobic jokes and lazy gags galore, the film feels like a sketch being dragged out way too long.

If you thought it was worth watching just for Tyler, guess again. She may be perfectly suited to characters who are pure and gentle but she's not convincing as a devious seductress. It's great how Tyler tried to act outside her comfort zone but she wasn't able to pull it off.
