playstation compared to nintendo64

i was wondering how can they put more stuff on playstation when it has only 32 bit of memory in it and nintendo64 has 64 bit of memory if somebody knows the reason why please let me know thanks.

Playstation was C.D. based while Nintendo was Cartridge based. Nintendo's Cartridge space for this game was only 12 Megabytes, which was friggen small. Later on, Nintendo utilized about 32 Megabytes on Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. If Mkt on N64 had that much memory, guranteed it would had been a better version then the Psx. Actually, I do like the n64 version better still. The playstation graphics was ugly in comparison to the 64 version and I felt that the Cpu boss fights wasn't as challenging as the 64 version, although they are almost similar. Both versions had bad collision detections, but the better one is the N64. The PSX had terrible loading times as well. Music and selection of characters are better on the Psx though.

It's all about the medium they used and not what results they are capable of producing.

so no matter what the cd format can always out do the cartridges format that is what you are saying right?

reply

Yeah, that's true majority of the time. Cartridge is only better because it uses zero loading time. You notice that C.D. has crap loading times, even the new systems tend to have this, although its much faster now. It depends on the laser as well. What sucks about cartridge is that ram is expensive, so that is why companies refused to make games for Nintendo. It would had cost too much. Most developers did say back then that fighting games should had ruled on N64 because the zero load times were ideal for fighting games. C.D. was better mainly for FMVs and RPGS, or handling more information. Like I said, ram was so expensive that they had to compress alot of stuff onto a small amount of memory.

By the time MK 4 came out, N64 was utilizing larger memory. Also, Nintendo had easier time doing 3d then PSX. One of my friends did tell me that 3D saves more memory than 2d. Overall, the 64 version of Mk 4 crushed the PSx version flawlessly.

hey blackheart981 just wondering how were they able to put resident evil two on nintendo64? I played on nintendo64 and the graphics were horrible!

I thought the '64 cartridges originally held 256 megabits of information?

The only thing I liked better in N64 was the full of stars sky in The Pit stage... Everything else was same or better in the PSX version.

The characters looked far bigger on the screen on the Nintendo 64 version but there was more characters on the PS version.

Speaking of more characters, I've wondered this ever since I first saw it: in the PS version, why is there no animation for Classic Sub-Zero's Animality?

reply

Because he didn't have one. Only Johnny Cage received new sprites due to the original actor being fired. The story goes that the original Subzero was killed in the first tournament, and the Subzero in 2 and 3 is his brother. The original Subzero became Noobsaibot or Smoke or one of them?
