The original inn keeper

I couldn't find a previous thread on this subject, so I'll ask everyone here.

Was the first inn keeper (before Yuen Biao) meant to be a gay character? If so, this is some what avant garde for a Chinese production and the story is set in an earlier period where I'm sure people weren't too open about such things.

But in the movie, you can see several instance where the Inn Keeper was overly "friendly" with Hero's friend (can't remember his name but the guy who brought "Mrs Hero" to America). I recall a scene where the In Keeper was taking turns eating the same egg with this guy, with the Inn Keeper feeding the both of them alternately by hand. Also, in at least in one other scene, the Inn Keeper holds on to arm of Hero's friend. Kind of meekly and gently like a lady would hold a gentleman's arm when walking down the street.

None of the other characters have any specific reactions to this "odd" behavior, meaning no acknowlegement. So either they know accept that the Inn Keeper (and possibly Hero's friend) are gay; or perhaps I've misread the whole thing.

Any insights?

BTW, hope no one is going flame me about making a big deal about characters being gay. I'm not against any minority group. Just that this is something I noticed, yet its not really acknowledged by any of the other characters nor in the plot.
