alternate ending

first of all,i really love this movie,it's an amazing love story either way,but this how i thought it ended when watching it for the first time (ok,somewhere in the back of my head i knew i was wrong, but why break the illusion?)..so,what bothered me was the pool.where the hell did the pool come from?why was there a pool anyway?it didn't make sense.it was just the way they took each other's hand and something about the look, the signiificance of the moment..it had to be the romeo+juliet ending..so this is how i saw it-there was no goddamn pool beneath them, just ground.and death.everything that happened afterwards was in a way a picture of heaven..where heaven actually means freedom from the world and freedom from themselves (and that surreal landscape at the very ending just made it more believable, where is that anyway, england?).
so..i know what it sounds like - i need to see the movie again, and i will as soon as i find the time, because it is a movie worth seeing twice, and not many are.but it just won't be the same movie without my unhappy ending.(which in fact isn't that unhappy, but that's a different matter.)

The pool wasn't a pool, but a small lake/pont and it is pretty normal in germany to have a park with a lake close by those kind of facilities.

However I also preferred to end the movie in that scene.. seeing those 2 kissing and stop! That would have kept the story romantically open and you wouldn't know, wether they survived or what happened.

The real ending actually pissed me off.

However I think the real ending was better. If the movie had ended in that scene you mantioned, it would have been incomplete. I would be expecting something else to happen.

Great movie!!

I donĀ“t play your rules I make my own.

From my perspective, if it had ended with them jumping, it would have felt:
--flippant
-- derivative of Thelma and Louise
