This film is a masterpiece

I cannot believe this film is not better knowm. Just finished watching and I don't understand how this is not more widely known. It was like no other film I have ever seen. An amazing avant-garde, spiritual, surreal, intelligent, philosophical classic.

10/10 doesn't do this justice.

True that.

Damn right! I just saw it and was completely blown away! How could this masterpiece be so unknown? I really want to see more of Teshigahara's work right now.

10/10

This is so good! My third Teshigahara film, now. Face of Another and Woman in the Dunes were the other two. I loved all three very much. An amazing Japanese auteur!

I just saw this one, & I couldn't agree more with everyone here. An economic/social allegory that's just about perfect in its symmetry. It was only about a third of the way through this masterpiece that I started to catch its spiritual kinship with Thornton Wilder & CS Lewis, amongst others. I was simply not prepared for how fantastic the film would be.
