What was the professor holding?

I understood all the references except one - what was the professor holding up, and why? And was it supposed to have something to do with his voice?

It is a cup of tea, so he is drinking some type of infussion. As the year is 1967, I suppose that what he is drinking is not *just* tea.

I think it was some sort of soup, or perhaps tea. I see two possible references here. One, when Luke first meets Yoda and is invited back to his house Yoda offers him some sort of Soup that he prepared. The second reference would be the steam that is coming off the soup/tea. That could represent the very foggy climate on Dagobah.
