Crocodile egg vs. alligator egg scene

If this is the movie I remember, there's a scene where the kids fleeing from the crocodile meet an alligator farmer. They have a crocodile egg with them. One of the kids asks what's the difference between a croc and a gator, and the farmer, holding the croc egg, walks over to a gator nest with eggs, and the gator eggs are tiny compared to the croc egg. Is there really that much difference between crocodiles and alligators?

Actually it's the sheriff who goes to the farm with a busted up Croc egg. I actually looked it up and from the pictures I cannot see that big of a difference. I assume that Croc eggs are a little bigger because Crocodiles are bigger than alligators, but the difference in egg size is probably not as big as this movie shows.

There is a little difference in shape, but size, I don't know. Does it vary by size? Those alligators were about average, but obviously the croc wasn't. Not that it belonged there anyway.

The wild, cruel animal is not behind the bars of a cage. He is in front of it.
