Poor emissary for Christ

I think TBN Films should be very ashamed of themselves to have hired Casper Van Dien to star in the lead role of Gillen Lane for this film. Two years previously in 1997 he starred in a very graphic nude sex scene in the film "Starship Troopers". If I was creating a movie to tell the Christian perspective on things, I certainly wouldn't hire someone who had willingly participated in things advocating gross immorality. Whatever happend to "avoid the very apperance of evil"? I KNOW there are some very gifted Christian actors out there, valiant to their core to the gospel of Jesus Christ (including chastity before marriage and virtue), who could have delivered a very excellent performance in this role. But rather than do that, TBN Films elected to prostitute themselves and the cause of Christ for a big name Hollywood actor, and the subsequent larger profits he would bring in. SHAME ON THEM!

It's all about money...especially to those greedy folks at TBN.

I agree with your points. However you need to check your facts before ranting, so as not to bear false witness against others.

In Starship Troopers, Van Dien does not appear nude on-screen. He appears topless, but NOT nude. Get your facts straight.
"a very graphic nude sex scene"??? apparently you didnt even watch the movie you criticize. That is pure hypocracy - making YOU the poor emissary for Christ.

It WAS a graphic nude sex scene. Because the woman he was with was completely topless as well, her bare breasts were showing, and the movie inferred that both were totally nude in that sleeping bag and committing unmarried fornication with each other. I was offended and embarrassed. I see no reason to give Van Dien an excuse in that situation. Christ would call it wrong, hands down. And Christ has told us to do the things that we see (or know) he would do. The scriptures abound with examples of people who became unworthy to be emmissaries for God because of their actions. Forgiving does not mean acquiescing and accepting the behavior. It was just plain wrong.

I'm sorry but there is nothing "graphic" about bare mammaries. Its not like we saw penis or female pubic hair. Breasts are hardly considered nudity. In Europe, bare breasts are totally acceptable in public. do you find a bare breast while feeding a baby also sinful and graphically sexual???
Besides, in the scene, where the breasts can be seen, the characters are showering - cleansing themselves. What is so sinful about showering? Did you ever shower in a gym with others present? Did you sin because of that?

And an "inference" that they had unmarried sex..... get a grip please. first off, do not judge others, esp based on INFERENCE. you had no proof that they were either nude or having sex. they could have been in their underwear and simply slept together in the same sleeping bag. But you jumped the gun and condemned them for things "infered". shame shame shame........

And excuse me, but I find it slightly blasphemous to INFER that an actor in a film, even a Christian themed film, is an emissary for Christ. He's just an actor, playing a role, ACTING like a Christian character. That's what movies are, no matter if Hollywood or TBN makes them... they are movies with actors - not emissaries, not messiah, not prophets, not even preachers. ACTORS.

Mixxed gender showers? If that doesn't lead to hanky panky, it can lead to someone seeing what they're missing & arouse desires they can't morally fulfill

Eric: No it isn't you guys

You know one of the reason that NO depiction of the Crucifixion is 100% accurate is the fact that Jesus would have been completely Naked on The Cross.

"TBN Films elected to prostitute themselves and the cause of Christ for a big name Hollywood actor, and the subsequent larger profits he would bring in"

Interesting theory, but Casper Van Dien isn't exactly a "big name Hollywood actor." Maybe he's "big time" compared to the rest of the cast in this movie, but other than "Starship Troopers" and a couple of bit parts early in his career, he's been stuck in direct-to-DVD horror/sci fi crap for most of the last decade. You can collect a near-complete Casper Van Dien filmography from the DVD rack at your local dollar store for cryin' out loud. The makers of "The Omega Code" didn't hire him expecting "larger profits," they probably hired him because he works cheap.
