I like it too,

the story is unique and interesting.
the ruthless corporate wars and the unexpected romance is cool.
the dolls are obviously interesting looking, but really dont do much
compared to the puppet master dolls.

dont watch it for the dolls.
dont watch it for the band girls.

watch it for the story.

I couldn't agree more. For a "B" movie, this is really first rate. There is a beautiful quality, a surreal aura to this film. Virgil is brillant and melancholy. He lives in a fortress/palace; beyond which gates he holds absolute power, like a Chinese emperor in the forbidden city. He even holds a spectacular, indeed dream like, court in the royal and imperial traditions. Virgil is all powerful and all wealthy, like Bill Gates or Warren Buffet, yet unlike these bores he knows how to educate himself in high art, poetry, history, and philosothy. (Gates and Buffet know how to make money, but do they know what it is for?)
And yet, like a man out of yore and myth, Virgil does not know happiness. Like Frankenstein, the Phantom of the Opera, and so many great monsters of Western literature, Virgil is deformed, and thus realizes he is rejected by the very world that is enthralled by his power.
He has all the makings of a great antihero. We see the brooding of a Marlon Brando character. Even the revenge theme is played out like a Sergio Leone Man Without a Name Story. And (of course) Virgil shares qualities with the brillance and cruelty of a Vincent Price character.
Moira is also a fantastic intelligent character, as the head of the 'banditos' (in this case lawyers) who did Virgil wrong. Her antiheroine persona and rich stage like plotting is thoroughly enjoyable. The beauty and the beast quality at the end is also very literary and fun.
I guess what I am trying to say is I pretty much like everything about this wacky movie and am surprised more people don't seem to enjoy it's sharp dialogue, interesting plot, literary references, and zany characters.
