Silver Surfer Movie

There should be a Silver Surfer movie with Vin Deisel as Silver Surfer.

Yes there should be a silver surfer movie and Vin Diesel would be good and another actor that I think would be good doing Silver Surfer is probably Paul Walker.

I disagree with the choice of Vin Diesel, just because he’s bald he is not automatically an appropriate choice for the part. The surfer should have a more moody brooding quality to him. And I’m afraid Vin Diesel just wouldn’t be up to that. Though I must admit that it's the casting of the surfer himself that worries me, I mean we don't want another Tobey Maguire, I suppose if you are going for an all star cast, Keanu Reeves would be appropriate, as deadpan as he is.
I furthermore nominate Pratick Stewart for the role of Galactus, Shannen Doherty as Shalla Bal, and Katie Holmes for the role of Nova ;-)
As for Thanos... how about Samuel L. Jackson?

A better question would be who could direct such a movie, without turning it into an over the top typical Hollywood blockbuster sci-fi?

But… this topic is already being discussed in response to The Silver Surfer (1994): http://imdb.com/title/tt0240898/board/nest/2310772

I agree with you, but casting Vin Diesel seems like something they would do.
UGGG....
He's too big to play Silver Surfer and too "bad ass"ish as well.

reply

Denzel Washington, all they need to do is make him work out a bit, thats it. He would be perfect. Vin Diesel wouldn't be good for the part because Silver Surfer needs to have a certain, soft spoken voice while maintaining a slim but muscular physique.

Vin Diesel is a horrible idea, and paul walker too. Billy Zane is a decent choice, as close to a marketable name as you might get. For Shalla Bal, I was thinking Kristen Kreuk(from smallville). That's just me, I am loyalist to the comic books and want to see people who will do justice to the roles and not just make some crappy hollywood action flick. I want to see something like X-Men, where all the elements of the books are combined to bring about a great story.

First of all, I am an insanely huge fan of the comic, but only the original 18 issues by Kirby and Lee that began in 1968 (which i own, and Fantastic Four #48 with the first appearance of Galactus and Silver Surfer) and I have always thought about a movie, and in the end, I think it's a bad idea. The whole philosophy of Norrin Radd and his nobility as the Surfer wouldn't catch on to the masses, and this movie would be targeted to the masses so they would change it drastically and ultimately fxck it up. I think the CGI in it would cost too much, no one can really play Norrin, and I just think they would ruin it entirely, and become a mockery in the same vein as the first Punisher or Captain America.

That being said, I have fantasized about seeing the story on the big screen. I wish it would show his home planet's story, and his story with Shalla-Bal and his nobility to save Earth from Galactus. I long to see a CGI version of him as well, and Thanos too.

In the end......I hope they don't make it unless Stan Lee makes sure they don't fxck it up, because after all, he even has said he thinks of it as his finest work ever.

How about Michael Rosenbaum from Smallville to be Norrin Radd/Silver Surfer, he's a good actor.

reply

Yeah that would be a great choise, Rosenbaum's got the acting skills (and the shiny bald head!) to portray the complexity of Norrin Radd; also it would be a familiar and recognizable, yet not too expensive (I think) actor that would draw in the Smallville viewers and fans of superhero shows (and movies) in general!

reply

Rosenbaum would be BEYOND awesme. I wasnt a big fan of smallville until recently, and his acting talent is what drew me in. Good thought. Im thinking Ving Rhames as Galactus, and Eliza Dushku as Nova.

Everything that you said was so on target. I too am a HUGE Silver Surfer fan and worry that the aura and image of this iconic type Christ-Like superhero will be screwed up in an attempt to introduce him to the general public.

His entire story though is epic / tragic / heroic and perfect for the big screen.

Billy Zane should play Norrin Radd.

Just saw F4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Funny, I was just logging on to comment about the movie, and specifically, the choice of Lawrence Fishborne as the voice of the SS. I agree with the original post that Vin Diesel should have gotten the role. Keanu would have been good. His voice would actually have been perfect. But what I fear when well known actors are cast for a blockbuster movie is that when you hear them you hear their former roles. In this instance L.F. - Morpheus. Not as much as I expected but still it was there. That's why I really would prefer it would be an unknown, or someone who hasn't been in the limelight so prominently. Again, I would have much preferred Vin over Keanu. With Vin you pay one person for acting instead of two, one for acting and the other voicing.

My opinion. (But, again, if Keanu wasn't as familiar (that's the best word) he would have been perfect.)

Silver Surfer - The Rock
Galactus - Sean Connery
Thanos - Jim Carrey (this will be interesting)
Nova - Renee Zelwegger (gravel throat!!)
Lady Chaos - Jeri Ryan (she's used to standing still a lot on Star Trek, she'd make a great statue)

I can't help but to laugh picturing the Silver Surfer arching one eye-browe at Galactus...There are a lot of good prospects, but the question is the budget. How much are they willing to invest into this movie? Considering that perhaps 3/4 of the movie would probably be set amongst the cosmos, they may not even use an actual living actor to save money.

Luke Goss from blade 2 should be the silver surfer
