It would be kinda stupid if frankins name was turtle. Just imagine bear saying Hey Turtle!
Imagine the theme song
"Heeeeyyy it's Turtle! Coming over to play. Growing a little, everyday".
And imagine "4:30 Dora The Explorer! 5:00 Turtle!"
The above assumes that this series was created for television. Again, the "Franklin" name originates from the book series on which this property is based, although I forget the explanation behind it. I do know though that in France, Franklin is known as "Benjamin."
When they started introducing other characters related to the characters on the series, they had to start coming up with more creative names. So Franklin's sister is Harriet, Beaver has a cousin named Betty and now also a brother named Kit.
The humor of this situation is not lost on the writers. In the Back to School With Franklin special, Miss Koala starts taking attendance. She points to Franklin and states "You must be Turtle." All of the other kids laugh and Franklin sheepishly says, "No, I'm Franklin." Miss Koala asks, "Right, any other surprises?" and everyone just sort of shakes their heads.
I was thinking the same exact thing today!! and I was thinking someone was gonna have a post like this lol
"Everythings going to change now isn't it?"

Well, there's also Beaver's brother Kit and cousin Betty, Bear's sister Beatrix and of course the Evil One, Harriet.
"Paper can be ripped - like your HEAD!"
What I want to know about the names is why they couldn't come up with names for the other characters. Franklin is the only name the writers could come up with? It's just plain lazy writing.
I figured that Franklin's parents were radical thinkers in their society, since apparently they were the first to name their child something other than the name of their species. And can you imagine the confusion when he was born? Mr. and Mrs. Turtle are introducing their new son to everybody else. "This is our son, Franklin." Bear: "What the hell is a Franklin?" And then the parents have to explain it EVERY TIME they introduce their son to everybody else.
It's as if the creators of the show dumbed down the show because it's a kid's show. But kid's shows do not need to be dumbed down. Kids are sharper than some adults give them credit for.
This thread is hysterical!
I was thinking the same thing this week when watching with my son.
With that said, I love the theme song.
