Not Very Good

I'm not some insensitive teen, who wants to jump on here and say "It Sucks" to every 3rd movie or tv series. But i gotta say, this is about the worst comic book - animated series since those very, very old Fantastic Four cartoons. If anyone remembers, "Thing Ring... do your thing!"

They made Hawkeye all but unwatchable. He was just plain annoying to me. Vision was never that docile, and his voice was horrible. Tigra was never that timid. The whole series just wasn't that good.

I've recently been working my way through the "Marvel Universe" cartoons from the 90s and watched through this Avengers series last week. On a scale of 1-10, I think the series scores a 5. The things mentioned above are fairly accurate, though maybe not so extreme.

1) An Avengers series without the big 3 isn't the worst idea, especially if you're a "universe" fan and get a kick out of seeing other heroes get some screen time.

2) The future setting wasn't that noticeable except in terms of the costumes.

3) Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Tigra and Falcon aren't the lamest heroes around.

4) The armor is terrible, especially the armoring-up animated sequences. These sequences are minimized later on in the series.

5) The storylines are original and feature Ultron, Kang the Conqueror, the Zodiac, along with the Masters of Evil headlining for the villains. Captain America, Namor and Iron Man make guest appearances during the middle of the series.

6) The voice acting was one of the stronger aspects of the show (along with the quality of art/animation). The series generally looks and sounds good. The voices for Hawkeye and Wanda could be better but they're nowhere near as bad as Luke Perry's Rick Jones (Hulk) or Robert Hays' Iron Man.

7) No comment on Ultron since I'm not particularly attached to him in any way.

8) The armored costumes are terrible and do a great deal to pull you out of the mood for watching the show. I had started watching the series a few times and was turned off by the costumes. Finally got in the right mind set and watched the show on my phone going to and from work on the train. Ant-Man and Wasp have the worst armor/costumes and Hawkeye has it pretty bad too. Falcon, Vision and Scarlet Witch don't fare as badly. Wonderman and Tigra get off pretty easy.

Compared to the current Avengers series, Avengers: United They Stand is pretty awful. On it's own, a little more tolerable.

My rankings of the 90s Marvel animated universe:

1a) Spider-Man - excellent. Loved the guest stars.
1b) X-Men - very good.
2) Silver Surfer - I wish they would have run a second season.
3) Iron Man - season 2 is good, season 1 is terrible.
4) Fantastic Four - season 2 is good, season 1 is miserable.
5) Incredible Hulk - great voice acting for the Leader, Gargoyle, Gen. Ross. Rick Jones and She-Hulk make you want to stop watching.
6) Avengers - could have been so much better
7) Spider-Man Unlimited - just awful.

I agree. I'm actually one of those horrible people who hates almost all of the Marvel cartoons from the Nineties.

Well this was only on 1 season. The writing was very good *but* the designs are based on bad anime. *Not* what you want from the Avengers. The Disney/MARVEL cartoon Avengers are better.

I actually enjoyed this one better than the other Avengers cartoons. Sadly it only lasted one season.

It felt like the makers of the show mostly took elements from the X-Men animated series instead of making the Avengers unique on their own:
*Ant-Man=Cyclops - The straight laced leader

*Wasp=Jean Grey - The redheaded love interest of the leader

*Tigra=Rogue - The boisterous "southern belle" bruiser

*Scarlet Witch=Storm - The non-westerner who calls her attacks

*Hawkeye=Wolverine - The team malcontent

*Wonder Man=Morph - The team member who is supposedly killed off but not really

*Falcon and Vision=Jubliee - The new recruits to the team

The conversation about media these days tend to be based around extremes, and for every piece of media that's hyperbolically declared to be the greatest of all time, there are a dozen TV shows, movies, or video games slapped with a reputation for being the worst ever. If you actually go back and revisit all that media, though, you'll find that a lot of those things, while flawed, don't really deserve their miserable reputations.

And then there's Avengers: United They Stand, a toyetic garbage pile that deserves the bad press it got and the vitriol it would've gotten if anyone had actually watched it.

Canceled about 15 minutes after it debuted in 1999, this one-season wonder has plenty of sins to answer for, but the most perplexing might be the lineup. Rather than doing an Avengers cartoon with big-name characters like Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man — which still would've been a dicey proposition in the years before the MCU made the team a household name — United They Stand gave viewers a team led by Hawkeye and Wonder Man... and yes, those were the big names.

The most infamous aspect, though, came from the redesigns that gave these Avengers hilariously bad "battle armor." This was ostensibly meant to sell toys, which wouldn't be so bad if the toys in question didn't have completely different, yet equally hilariously bad armor of their own. It's bad in a way that's not even fun to watch while goofing on it,  but hey: if you're a big Marvel fan looking to question your life choices, this show can make that happen almost instantly.
