really liked this movie

this is one of my favorite movies, I just keep enjoying watching it time after time. Who else agrees?

i watched this movie for the first time yesterday, and will readily admit to it being one of the greatest movies i've seen in a long time. it has so many layers; it's so colorful. but yes, i really quite loved it. the instanted the credits ended i was tempted to press play all over again.... and i did.

I agree. I really have to buy it on DVD someday. It's just a superb movie - it has humour (especially the scene when Göran arrives to 'Tillsammans' with his sister and her kids, only to find two --uh, scantily clad people in the kitchen :D ), and drama.

Abba's "S.O.S" fits perfectly to the final scene.

This has one function - confirming mine (and other's) prejudice against Americans. But, hell, why should you understand the outside world when your worldview is confined to believing in your country as the centre of the earth and every other country having to obey your orders. Of course you won't understand Swedish culture. Or German, Italian, Russian, Danish, Czech or French, for that sake. I sincerely hope all Americans are not as ignorant as this Irene.

I wish people would not make posts like this because I'm pretty sure the only reason for doing it is to annoy other people to provoke a reaction and I always fall for the bait!

Irene: You cannot sum up an entire continent and it's cinematic output based on Lukas Moodysson and Reny Harlin. If you like action I would reccomend: Gérard Pirès and Gérard Krawczyk's "Taxi" (French) or Boris Paval Conen's "Temmink: The Ultimate Fight" (Dutch). There are hundreds more examples, I suggest you look at the European Online Cinema Database at http://www.mediasalles.it/webdr.htm for some more ideas.

Just to defend Americans for a second, for someone who claims to be Romanian I would have thought you would have more support for European film, but there again I have read some of your other posts: "I hate all kinds of nationalism and patriotism" followed by "if there will ever be a third World War Im sure the Germanic blondies start it again".

So, readers of IMDB, I would hazard a guess we're not exactly dealing with a enlightened intellect here, are we? I think it's probably best to ignore this lady and carry on talking about movies!

Just to get this slightly back on topic: I agree with the top poster. This is a lovely film, beautifully crafted and a good introduction to Moodysson's other films. I would reccomend to anybody to give "Together" a chance!

I ordered the DVD of this fantastic piece of work a week ago and on a friday night I sat down to chill a bit. And what a choice I had made. Tillsammans was extremely what I needed after a long and tiring week. Simply so sublime, warm and funny.

I wouldn't call it a favorite, but I was pleasantly surprised. Before I saw it I thought it was a politically correct movie, but it turned out it wasn't. Instead they made fun of the feminist and the communist. The movie didn't even glorify collective living I think - children shouldn't have to live in a house where people are partying every night. One small disappointment was that the real hardcore characters (the couple who moved) were not developed in the movie - they were only present in two scenes IIRC and they didn't speak much. Thus we didn't really get to see how "normal" hippie life was supposed to be at the house. Instead we saw quarrels and decadency.

Also surprising were some of the turns - the homosexual part where the "converted" woman discovered that her ex had taken it one step further and that Rolf seemed to be forgiven - if he adapted to the new terms. In the end most of the characters were winners because they did something about their situation.

Another great thing was the furnishing.

reply

Actually, I disagree that it made fun of neither communists nor feminists. Sure, there were some pretty weird characters associated with this, but the movie portrayed them as parts of a larger whole in which they were not made fun of. At least that is my conception of it.

this is one of my favourite movies. i love it, it brings me joy and laughter. i love the way they interact and how they give an insight in what it was like in the 70's. i know for a fact, that if I lived in the 70's I would also stay in that house, with them - together.

rather eat porridge together, than beefsteak alone.

To agree with one of the earlier posters, this is one of only two films I've bought (without having seen) and watched initially and simply HAD TO watch it again straight away. The other being Sideways.

Together is just fabulous.

reply

This would make an excellent companion piece to "Sideways," another film about adults "finding" themselves and each other. Excellent performances in both films, a few surprises, and an overwhelming sense of humanity.
