I didn't like it, but then again....

I am not in denial I realize my American Christian conservative views made me feel uncomfortable about this movie. I didn't really understand if the writer was trying to say open relationships, commune living and socialism doesn't work or maybe he was saying in the end it does, or maybe he wasn't making any kind of statement. I laughed in some scenes, was so happy when Goran poured that plate of food on Lena's head and was like YES!!! when he kicked her out of the house. Hated when new lesbian was trying to get Rolf's wife and when new lesbian's ex-hubby gave in to Klas, or actually her ex - hub set himself up because it's only natural he was going to get excited if he allowed Klas to do to him what he wanted, the flesh doesn't have boundaries. The first thing I thought was Klas will eventually become bored with new lesbian's ex and then he's going to go out and have some non-boundary sex and bring whatever he catches back to new lesbian's ex and since this is depicting years not far from the 80's the next storyline could be how "together" they deal with the issue of Aids and on top of that Eva and the boy across the street either get pregnant or have a scare from that little scene where they slept together...yeah right they weren't going to do anything. I also couldn't get with the boy telling his Mom he's not going home...WHAT!!!! Maybe it's a culture thing. I don't know, but he would have thought more than twice before thinking those words, let alone saying them. Anyway I have to admit the movie kept me up until almost 2 and now that I think about it was pretty good, but I still didn't like it. Maybe that's what a good movie is you like it, but then again you don't and it makes you think. hmmmmmm.

It sounds like you actually liked the film but your boring, up-tight, conservative Christian values had you guiltily playing voyeur like the man in his workshop downstairs! What sort of a cynic are you to go on about catching AIDS and teen pregnancy?!! Culture, schmulture, it's called living. Get a life, dude!

Nothing like a judgmental simpleton to revel in his own imagined superiority.

I see what you mean. I didn't like that part, either. But the movie still is really good and hippie-esque. I own it and won't sell it. The characters are too real. The relationships and interactions are too good. Perhaps the parts we don't like -- other people understand better or see it a different way?

I think it's great that you gave the movie a chance, though.

I hate to generalize, but it seems like most Christian right-wingers, all you seem to think about is SEX. And if any GAY sex is involved, well then that's the only thing you will focus on.

I can't believe pretty much the only thing you had to comment on in this movie was gay sex, and the lesbian chick and that the two teens slept in the same bed so they MUST have had sex. It was OBVIOUS they didn't. It was completely innocent. We didn't even see them kiss even once, or hold hands, yet you deduce that they must have had sex? I guess in your mind you can't imagine two 13-year-olds sharing a bed without having sex, which speaks volumes about YOU.

And of course, to top it off, you can't comment on anything to do with homosexuality without mentioning AIDS. Congratulations for living up to the typical uptight American conservative stereotype.

do you feel uncomfortable when watching movies in which people lie, steal, and kill, or do those things not bother your Christian values like sex does?

Who cares about stairs? The main thing is ice cream.

Last night the shooting of a black man was seen on network TV all over the world, and nobody batted an eyelash. Show a breast, a butt or a penis and the whole media collapses. That's not conservadurism, it's hypocrisy, and that's what's wrong in America. This film is the "American Beauty" of Sweden, in my opinion.
