Tomoe's scene

I haven't seen anybody asking this so i just want to clear up this point: In the 3rd part of the movie, there was one scene when Tomoe woke up in the middle of a rainy night, went outside and then she was somehow biting her hair and after that there's this scene showing blood. What is that supposed to mean?

She was on her period. I have the blu ray special edition that came out recently and it came with an interview with the director who was actually asked this. He stated that it goes with the theme of blood, a woman being shown menstruating hadn't really been shown in anime much before this, and more importantly it goes with Tomoe's conflicting emotions with falling in love with Kenshin. Mostly symbolism.

But yeah. She's on her period.

At 1st , I was wondering what the hell happened to her too . I do not know no sh!ts about women so are they supposed to feel pain in their stomachs when they have their periods ?

Another meaning of that scene is that they wanted to show that Tomoe is still a virgin , Kenshin hasnt done her yet until later , lol . They lived together but they still had a pure relation , no sex until later .

BTW , the english dub added some erotic moaning so it can make people think that she was masturbating , lol .
